Obama is only divisive if you are a rabid racist. There, I said it.
You can not like him politically, but he is still an accomplished and successful US President. I have no problem with schools named after George "Dubya" Bush or Ronald Reagan, tho I might find their legacy debatable or their politics atrocious.
So, are you a racist?
I thought it was good taste to wait until someone's death to rename things in their honor. I wasn't aware Obama was dead.
I love it. Lionizing traitors is not a thing we should be doing. I defended one of the statues torn down, as it was honoring conscripts (read: non-volunteers) who fought for the South. But generally speaking, I have no idea why this issue took so long to come to the forefront, aside from the obvious fact nobody cares what a statue is for, or even reads the plaque.
I think regardless of what you think about Obama, he is the first black president, and it makes sense to name a bunch of schools after him, not just this one. It would be nice if he wasn't the worst president ever, but simply attaining the office is a great achievement, that should be celebrated.
Yup. You are a racist, you just admitted to it when you called victims of police shootings "thugs". There are an infinite number of well documented cases of use of excessive force. Even assuming that the people shot were doing something illegal (often enough not the case), the police IS NOT judge, jury and executioner. You know we have these things called "legitimate use of force" and "due process", that minorities don't seem to benefit from for some reason.
You people as in liberals. The ones who see racism, sexism, and bigotry in every shadow.

Cool, want a cookie? Term doesn't even have meaning anymore.
I mean, you call me racist, then probably go off and praise affirmative action and talk about the mythical white privilege.
Well, if this keeps up this thread is going to be locked pretty quick.
“The biggest communication problem is we do not listen to understand. We listen to reply,” Stephen Covey.
White privilege is the statistical likelihood of me never going to jail for drug use, despite of the fact that whites are as likely to both use and traffic drugs as minorities, it's me never have been stopped and searched in New York (I'm from NY), it's not having called the cops on me if I'm at a pool party in a white neighborhood, it's me not being shut out from living in that neighborhood, it's me not getting shot for the crime of wearing a hoodie, or playing with a toy gun at a playground at the age of 12, it's my parents not having to be escorted into their classrooms under National Guard protection.
