Well then, please...explain your meaning if it wasn't that they owe their lives in America to the fact that their ancestors were brought over in slave ships.

I never stated anything in regards to them "owing their life" to anyone. I simply stated a fact. The series of events that lead to their ancestors being slaves also lead to them being born.

Obama is only divisive if you are a rabid racist. There, I said it.

You can not like him politically, but he is still an accomplished and successful US President. I have no problem with schools named after George "Dubya" Bush or Ronald Reagan, tho I might find their legacy debatable or their politics atrocious.

    So, are you a racist?

I thought it was good taste to wait until someone's death to rename things in their honor. I wasn't aware Obama was dead.

So constantly race baiting and demonizing the police anytime a thug was shot was not divisive?

And want to call me a racist, go ahead. It's all you people have left.

    State Rights!

The right of states to allow and encourage the ownership and exploitation of other human beings.

Why bring it up at all then? It's like saying "i wouldn't be here today if my great grandma never fucked the handsome farmhand in her daddy's stables."

This is good to see. It's pretty sad that most of these kids had to go to a school named after a guy who fought to keep their ancestors enslaved.

And for those who are worried that this decision will cause people to suddenly forget who Jefferson Davis was, fear not. There are these things called history books that do a great job of covering just what a despicable person and incompetent leader Davis was.
I love it. Lionizing traitors is not a thing we should be doing. I defended one of the statues torn down, as it was honoring conscripts (read: non-volunteers) who fought for the South. But generally speaking, I have no idea why this issue took so long to come to the forefront, aside from the obvious fact nobody cares what a statue is for, or even reads the plaque.

I think regardless of what you think about Obama, he is the first black president, and it makes sense to name a bunch of schools after him, not just this one. It would be nice if he wasn't the worst president ever, but simply attaining the office is a great achievement, that should be celebrated.

Yup. You are a racist, you just admitted to it when you called victims of police shootings "thugs". There are an infinite number of well documented cases of use of excessive force. Even assuming that the people shot were doing something illegal (often enough not the case), the police IS NOT judge, jury and executioner. You know we have these things called "legitimate use of force" and "due process", that minorities don't seem to benefit from for some reason.

Cool, want a cookie? Term doesn't even have meaning anymore.

I mean, you call me racist, then probably go off and praise affirmative action and talk about the mythical white privilege.

It's funny how certain section always uses the word "thug" when talking of blacks specifically. It's almost like new word for what was the old one....Ahh "nigger".

More like if you wave a gun at police and get shot, then yes, I am going to call you a thug.

Don't wave a gun at an officer, don't get shot. Simple logic, really.

Ah, like that ni...."thug" Castille was waving a gun before being shot?

Without regard for whether any of the 7 bullets would hit the wife or kid.

Well, if this keeps up this thread is going to be locked pretty quick.

You are boring me. You aren't going to convince me they weren't thugs.

Scream racist, turn blue in the face for all I care if it makes you feel better.
