Neptulon could also be a villain if they wanted. Therazane as well.

Don't think we'll be fighting Void Lords for a while.

We still need to kill Alexstrasza as well.
I'd love it better if all of the Old Gods except for N'zoth were dead, and stayed dead throughout WoW's history. I don't need them to come back, considering the new lore. Old God's can die, either through getting plucked out, or by dying in the ground. However, their final blows do cause shit. For example, C'thun/Yog'sarron caused Earth Quakes, which fucked the Elements over, hence starting the Cataclysm. And, Y'sharrj was just plucked, though he did cause the Sha, and the Well. Though, the Well was just an After Effect of the plucking.

I also think Alexstrasza won't die, unless they give her a reason to. And, the Infinite Dragonflight may only last this coming Expansion, if we do time it right (In which, we likely will). Oh, and as for the Elemental Lords, I can see them as either Minor Raid Villains (For Example, ToV styled Raid bosses. Meaning, not too effective over the Lore, in a sense), or they can be set as Minor Characters (For Example, Therazane for a few simple quests, and Neptulon with his Naga shit).

However, the main focus will be against Azshara, N'zoth, and the Black Empire.

Off Topic: I just realized this.

What everyone thinks Before the Storm is about: Some Life is Strange Prequel.

What we think Before the Storm is about: Naga, Old Gods, Chaos, Infinite BS, Void shit, Tentacles, War, Naval War, and...well...Pirates...

    Just...just...Pirates.

    Mutha fuckin Pirates.

If you look up the ISBN, you get this on some pages.

Basically confirming it's a literal storm.

Maybe the storm refers to Jaina's Fury, not the naga/N'Zoth/Azshara?

    Anyway, still slightly hyped.

Well... they painted the light as not so good, so just have to put a zealot group of light bearers that want to bring ORDER! (in all its form), and that's another villain as strong as the Void Lords.

Wow, it's scary how some of you are taking the word "storm" in a literal sense.

They deliberately chose the most vague title possible....But this does narrow it down ever so slightly. I was leaning on the Infinite Dragonflight and the Scourge being the villains of the new expansion, but that doesn't feel right anymore. All of the other expansion's prequel novels have had some sort of foreshadowing...so lets assume the storm is literal, and not some sort of 'Storm of Swords' metaphor.

The storm could be a direct result of Sargeras' attack, a huge sword descending through the atmosphere would be very troubling for the atmosphere, but a world altering global storm sounds too similar to the Cataclysm and thus unlikely.

The naga have been shown to control storms, the Eye of Azshara instance being the best example. However, that is a minor ability of some of her minions. The Naga's ability to control the weather is not likely to be the focus of their eventual conquest.

We killed Al'Akir in the Elemental plane, meaning he is gone for good. However, during the Monk Windwalker artifact questline we see that the Skywall is not quiet. A new lord may rise to power and cause trouble for Azeroth. Wrathion is plotting something, and with his dress he already fits in thematically with the Arabic theme of the wind elementals. His father definitely had connections, if some wind elementals were willing to serve Deathwing, they may be willing to serve his son.

THAT is the theory I'm going to go with. The next expansion is the culmination of Wrathion's plotting. For reasons so far known only to him, he does seem antagonistic. He consumed the heart of Ra-Den, a Titanforged with command over storms. He could use this power to ascend and become the next Windlord, and use his new throne to complete whatever task he has in mind. This could still bring the Infinite Dragonflight into the picture, since he has a very loose connection to them through Kairozdormu. Northrend has had quite the attention in Legion, with many artifacts being located there, several key story moments happening there, and Dalaran itself being the hub city of Legion. I think that the next expansion will have Wrathion, with new knowledge gained from Ra-den, the Prime Designate, seeking something of great power within Ulduar, something only Ra-den himself knew of. Northrend will be revamped, with the hub city being located in the Crystalsong Forest again, although Dalaran is gone. This is why Blizzard felt Dalaran was the perfect hub for Legion, because they planned on revamping Northrend soon anyway but had an idea for a new city, so they wanted Dalaran gone.

The question is, what does Wrathion WANT? I have a theory. Originally, his purpose was honest. He wanted to stop the Legion. However, on consuming the heart of Ra-den, he discovered another way to 'protect' Azeroth. Deep within Ulduar lay a Titan safeguard. When the Titans uplifted the Dragonflights, they knew their power might be dangerous should the aspects stray from their path. However, when Loken usurped Ra, the knowledge of the safeguard was lost, as only the Prime Designate knew of an object of such power. The artifact was the very same relic the Titans used to uplift the dragons in the first place, with it, Wrathion could control, alter, create, or even resurrect dragons. Wrathion uses this artifact to dominate Nozdormu and Alexstrasza, resurrect Ysera, Malygos, and even his father, and lastly, being a dragon himself, grant him powers beyond measure. With the armies of the Alliance and Horde exhausted from the war against the Legion, there will be no great war effort against the new united Dragonflight, it is all they can do to defend themselves from the thronged skies. It will be up to us to fight a shadow war against Wrathion and the corrupted aspects, not only because we are alone, but because Wrathion's new power exceeds anything we have fought before. He wields the power to create life, to bend nature, to warp magic, to shape the earth, and even control time itself. Wrathion the Prismatic is the only one that can defend Azeroth against the power of darkness, or so he thinks. But who, then, will defend Azeroth from him?

Find out, in World of Warcraft: Dragonstorm. Available in 2018

"Storm". I really hope this means there's the kind of elemental presence there was in cata. Here's hoping for another skywall-esque dungeon + abyssal maw.

unless it comes out with or after the expansion... alos the date is not confirmed yet.

also those saying storm confirms water blah blah
it could alos be reference to "calm before the storm" a common phrase, and that being either it will compare what we just faught to being "the calm" or we are about to get a "calm" expansion followed by one that is super hardcore.

on the wowhead comment for the post

The timing of this book doesn't point to a release yet.

    War Crimes came out 5/6/14
    Warlords dropped 11/13/14

    Meanwhile

Tides of War came out 8/24/12
    Mists dropped 9/25/12

If we look at a non Golden book since she was busy with the Warcraft Movie novels:

World of Warcraft: Illidan came out 4/12/16
    Legion dropped 8/30/16

    Heck let's go back further:

    The Shattering came out 10/19/10
    Cataclysm came out 12/7/10

also can i just say you americans have the fucking worst calanders?
    smallest to largest
    day-month-year
    23-10-2017
    dont fucking make it confusing
    month-day-year
you say today is the 23erd of october, saying today is october 23erd is just bad

you say today is the 23erd of october, saying today is october 23erd is just bad
its weird you say that, becauce the american system is obviously superior

If you want to know simply what the day of an event is that is soon you dont need to say the month because everyone knows what it is so you just say "its the 17th" or "its next tuesday the 23rd" or whatever

If you have vague far away plans or something in the past you just say "i think it was last march" or "lets do it sometime in july" the day is unnecessary, as is the year

the only time the full date needs to be given is if its a very specific event, past or future. The month is the most important aspect because most events discussed are int he same year, however a calender, even a digital one has 12 different pages. in order to find the right day you first must find the right month. Furthermore there is a HUGE difference between Jan 21st and October 21st

also saying "the twenty first of october" is literally 2 more words than "october twenty-First". Its obviously inferior way to talk however you can do what you wish.

this is similar to how Inches, and feet, as well as farenheit is more useful to common people, while Metric and Celsius are better for scientific data. discussing the height of a person its difficult to quickly comprehend "1.6 meters" vs "1.4" meters. while its pretty easy to understand a persons height in feet. someone who is 5 foot is very short, someone who is over 6 foot is very tall and the difference in most peoples height is about a foot. Meanwhile with F 0 is super cold, 30 is very cold, 60 is moderate 80 is warm and 100 is very hot. its a very simple system .
    --------------------------------------------------------------

but other than that you make a good point in that there is no way to tell with this date, based on the past, when the expansion will release
Romance doesnt detract from a story. Its a Genre, like horror or comedy or adventure. The game was ruined when we got Horror in drustvar or nazmir. It wasnt ruined when we had funny quests. So if you think a little man on man love ruins the game, then yes you are either a homophobe or just a spoil sport that goes "ewww kissing is yucky" like a baby. Furthermore, if a character has never expressed interest in any gender, then its not proof they are straight. straight people are not the default

Or it be confirmation of a Skywall expasion (taken litetally) or a horde vs allaince expasion (taken as the saying mean peaceful period before a great upheaval).

    Before the storm is vague

Before the storm seems like a poor title. How could any thing the old gods or even the void lords do to beat out a full world invasion from the legion and sargaras stabing the planet.
