Like several people have already pointed out, the Authenticator app is free of charge. There's no "feeling special" involved, it's literally a case of adding security to one's account and getting a perk from it.

Well. They finally added it, putting it behind a authenticator is a smart move. Can get authenticator free on your phone. This way, you have an inventive to add an authenticator = less job for blizzard dealing with hacked accounts.

On the other hand. More authenticators, maybe more effort is put into breaking it and making authenticated accounts more prone for intruders
