they should get rid of the *forging system that is the one that really ruin itemization they should really go back to the era of fixed ilvl that only go up when a new raid come out, not removing tier set so peoples don't feel bad for ditching that titanforged shit they gambled out from the kadala like vendor on the xenedar in favor of keeping the tier.

when i see those kind of announcement i really have the urge to be a fly and sneak into one of those blizzard brainstorming session where someone come up with those shitty idea, for real.

I can see the point they are making, I don't know how many high ilvl drops I have in my bank that I can't use because those slots are blocked by tier pieces and legendaries. I'm not sure how I like how it balances things between M+ and raids though. Hopefully the azerite pieces from raids have unique bonuses that makes them equivalent to raid tiers or perhaps they can have more 2-piece sets like the ones from Arcway/Court of Stars etc.

Emerald nightmare didn't have any set pieces, people still raided it. Raiding is fun, set or not. Too bad for people only playing for the loot race, maybe find another game ?
I'm actually interested by this change. They are trying to make gearing interesting again when it is sooooooo locked in Legion. Can't change your 2 BIS legendaries, can't change your 2p/4p, can't change your trinkets, makes MM+ and the weekly chest very bland hoping for one of the rare non set, non legendary, non trinket slots update or hoping for a god rolled relic.

i personaly would prefer smaller sets, like the 2 piece sets from suramar dungeons

Instead of removing sets so titanforged gear isn't banked they should remove titanforge so raidgear is a reward again.

Gear w/ Azerite bonuses won't TF, it means that you only had to choose between better Azerite bonuses or tier pieces, given that 4p+2p is an acceptable practice for certain specs now, you basically had slots for Azerite attuned gear locked because of tier pieces.

In Legion people bitched about too much RNG on gear, guess, in BfA people will bitch about too little RNG on gear.

I'm only worried about number of sets, knowing Blizz, they could actually pick the lazy approach and make only 1 set for each armour type.

I main druid and I hate every druid set that is themed after the raids they drop from. Class sets look better themed after the classes imo.

That would of been a reasonable work around solution but we cannot have that, no sir.

With azerite bonuses being on basically 3 set slots, this was entirely expected. Otherwise you would have to choose between having tier bonus or the proper Azerite bonus, which would've been terrible. Now you are free to pick the appropriate piece with the Azerite bonus you want - plus the Azerite bonuses basically replace legendaries/set bonuses in one go, so there really is no huge need for Set anymore.

who knows we still may get them from M+ dungeons

Nah, as you can see, that's too little RNG for people here

Blizz should've left TF on all slots, made Azerite bonuses random, so they'd roll when gear piece dropped, and ofc left tier bonuses in place, this way we'd have chased the ultimate combo of highest ilvl and best Azerite bonus on a tier pieces till kingdom come o_O

with every update they make, i feel less desire to play the game. instead of getting rid of titanforged, they get rid of tiers. The tiers can't compete with the shitty rng.

    FINALLY!

It was about time that someone realised locking 4 slots severely dimishes gearing freedom and makes class balance an utter nightmare.

A great development for the game. Let's see how popular raiding will be now.

As a m+ player this is the best decision ever. I'm almost most excited for this change. I'm was never really lucky with tier before. And now did I do m+ you just notice how much the difference can be.

WoW under Ian is WoW under Elitist Jerks. It's all about the numbers. Your item level, making all talents as good as each other, making all secondary stats as good as each other... Who cares about unique and cool looking gear when you can reuse the same item names on all different difficulties and "titanforged" variants? All in the name of making the numbers work.

Feeding your pet, as a way of roleplaying and connecting with your pet? DOES NOT COMPUTE TO NUMBERS ELIMINATE
Buying arrows to shoot for role playing purposes? DOES NOT COMPUTE TO NUMBERS ELIMINATE
Class quests to get abilities? DOES NOT COMPUTE TO NUMBERS ELIMINATE
Training skills from a master of your class? DOES NOT COMPUTE TO NUMBERS ELIMINATE

I would be upset about this but ever since the announcement of Classic servers, I don't care.
    This is amazing.

You complain that this is "WoW under Elitist Jerks", then literally all your examples are of stuff that was removed in Wrath, Cata, or Mists.

Not a single one of those things got removed in WoD or Legion, which are the only WoW expansions where Ion had a controlling role.

Should make it easier to find upgrades, with fewer slots locked down. Can't say more till I get a full look at what they're replacing them with.

That's the only legit worry here.

If Blizzard cheap-out and only make 4 sets instead of 12, then I will be pissed. On the other hand, if they make 8, and I can choose from 2 looks properly for each class, and possibly have class-unique shoulders/chest/helm (which I think will be the case), instead of being only able to get one look and maybe an ugly recolour of some rando parts of another set, then that could be fine.

Considering the nerfs to old tier sets that came with the release of ToS, i would say "Apparently yes"

Between "Your class needs 4-piece to work well", "The stats on this item are crap but i still use it to get the set bonus", and "We'll nerf the old tier bonuses so you'll actually want the new set", i think getting rid of tier bonuses is a welcome change...

It is not exclusivly under Ian. It's the WotLK+ leaders obviously. And in this case right here I am talking about more recent stuff like:
    - Removal of Raid tier sets and their bonuses
    - Removal of PvP gear and rating requirements (or grinding requirements)
    - Removal of PvP realms
    - multiple difficulties on Scenarios 2.0
    - Titanforging
    - Mythic+
