You will still be able to send followers out on missions and such, they are just greatly reducing the amount of gold you can get from them. I would think medallions of the legion will still be a rare mission from time to time, and also the exp elixir.

Its the same person that leaked WoD pre-patch date accurately and knew about demon hunters well before it was announced on gamescom. I think the date makes sense.

If WoD wasn't your first expansion, you would know that they generally release prepatch 4-6 weeks before game launch, giving players enough time to get used to the new systems and features before they roll out the content for it. It's been that way for a long time and if Legion is set to launch end of August, prepatch would be at the end of July. It's not a leak, it's not a prediction. At this point it's an educated guess.

Isn't it more plausible that the prepatch hits near after the release of the movie?

People see the movie, get interested in WoW, play the game and when they start to get the hang of their class, the entire gameplay changes to legion-style and they need to learn it again. It seems dumb to me, to release the prepatch in July.

That would've made more sense. I was certain that's what they'd do. I was wrong. They haven't even enabled character transfers to the beta yet, and that's going to open up a lot of bug issues with wardrobe. No PTR either.

Well, no. It's almost June now and they're just now getting into the tuning phase, there's still a ton of serious bugs and level100-locked tuning is almost certainly not the focus, yet.

Well, marketing wise it seems more reasonable to release near the movie, but it seems I am wrong if the tuning still need so much work.
