Is it still worth to pay the 5000 gold for the lvl 3 garrison?

dont bother, while 5k can easily be made selling items or doing a weeks worth of cata raids, there is no clear benefit on the investment.

Everyone is jumping over what is arguably the most important post in this thread. It costs garrison resources, not gold, to upgrade your garrison now.

2000 resources and 5000g is what mine showed until after I dropped and reacquired the quest. Now the quest shows 2k resources, but the upgrade button still lists the gold.

No it isn't, there is no way you are making that back before legion now that nothing basically rewards gold and the PvP season has ended so no more honor/conq tokens either.

5000 gold is like a week or 2 of cata heroics dude
