Skyrim- What kind of mods do you want to see?

    2 part thread:

Firstly, We all saw what the community was able to do with the gamebryo engine, once the community learns the creation engine the sky is the limit. quite literally because if you want a mod that allows you to ride/turn into a dragon and fight other dragons while airborne, well then your in luck. So what do you want to see modded?

Personally, I want to see a large scale warfare mod, one of the major issues with oblivion was that the climax (battle of bruma) was weak. The entire game I was winning over people from all around cryodil and was expecting at least 100 soldiers if not 800 to help me out at bruma. I show up and its a ragtag team of about 10-20 guys who die extremely easily. Now imagine if instead you had shown up at a large field and on the far side an oblivion gate is opened thats the size of the dark portal in wow. Thousands of demons are on the far side waiting to tear you to shreds. You look down the hill to the left and you are welcomed by the site of 1000 soldiers to aid you. Imagine that mod in combination with mods that allow you to command an army, command archers, siege engines, dragons. Ride a dragon over this battlefield and reign fire on the enemys line of demons. The possibilities are endless but I dont know if the gamebryo engine could have handled this but hopefully skyrim will bring us this. So what do you want to see?

Secondly, I have zero experience modding any game ever. How difficult/extensive is it? is there coding involved? (i have experience coding) are there major risks involved? could i jeapordize the playability? I'm not talking about major things but rather just small cosmetic things, would i be able to learn it?

I want one that adds flying mounts into the game, then allows you to fight the dragons in the air. Seem pretty cool. Also I would like a mod that allows you to dye armor to be whatever color you want. I wish I knew how to write mods....

High res textures if they aren't included . Otherwise I dunno +1 for Large scale battles but also perhaps a decent gunpowder mod or something?

I would have also liked to have seen a major battle at Bruma. Unfortunately, I doubt many people would have been able to handle the requirements of such a feat, let alone the consoles.

Flying is something I'll never want. It made WoW seem a whole lot smaller and was one major factor that turned me off the game. If I could do away with Fast Travel completely in ES games without extensive modding, I would. The world is so much larger and more dangerous.

i didnt think about the flying that way, but god knows flying over the landscape is better than merely fast traveling

High-Resolution textures, and any 'realism' simulating mods. Having to eat food, being able to see outside of windows from inside (or inside from outside), and probably an alternative start mod. Also, I will mod out fast travel, if there isn't already an option to disable it. I believe they also offer transports akin to Silt Striders so no need for anything like that.

Really, anything that makes the game harder or look better. I'm also looking forward to any mod projects that add parts of Morrowind or Cyrodil in - like they started to in Oblivion.

Same as Oblivion and Morrowind, EVERYTHING!
Not that it's bad to begin with but the ease of the modding makes it much more awesome.

Nude mods for sure! With added dragon genitalia!

Suppose I should add a more serious comment, for fear people might have thought I genuinely wanted to see dragon ballz..

+1 to flying mounts though.. nothing more epic than flying over those landscapes, particularly if the grand scale is maintained!

HD graphics and texture mods for the most part. I dont really change anything else unless the original concept is not to my liking (see- UI for Obvlivion).

While I'd be lying if I said I didn't like some sex appeal mods I would like to see that not be the all encompassing matter.

I want more interesting content, telling a story or just adding some interesting challenge dungeons. Grand looking houses or political affairs mods. Better cities and more spells. More powers, more characters, more companions.

The big thing I'd like to see in Mods ASAP is a tutorial. I'm out of school for the next 6 months minimum and I want to start making good mods.
One day I look forward to seeing full grown adults realize that their averse reactions to levity and positive/contemplative expressions of emotion are a cry for therapy.

Extreme view distance, i remember Oblivions great view distance. I could see the Imperial city from anywhere.
And then i remember the mod that gave 4x view distance.

Texture mod, for higher resolution textures.

    And... and... EVERYTHING!!!
Anything from strapon mods to summon dragons on hit weapons... :P

Spellcrafting mod. I was really surprised to hear they wouldn't have spellcrafting included.

Hopefully a zombie mod for when i get bored that 28 days mod in oblivion was amazing and regardless of what people say.. I will never get tired of zombies. That and I always love when people recreate places from other games in Oblivion.

OH and my third favorite thing.. When people make WoW armor/Weapons.

Maybe I'm bizzare but those always seemed like the worst to me (x.x).The only armor mod I ever used was the Tyrael armor set, because it was really well done. Its here if you haven't seen it.

It is going to be interesting to see what the editor will allow us to do. Other then just looking better there seems like there is a whole lot of new features. I'm really interested in the real-time conversations, and maybe the possibility of doing an in-game cinematic - something like a horse riding up, or a boat pulling into dock.

On the topic of 'body' mods I don't think you can have an Elder Scrolls game without them. They are nice, though I think I used the less common (gender) body re-placer *cough*, but a bit of an annoyance when you search for mods and 3/4 of the results are all partially exposed woman.

I've never played with mods so I can't say what they've done, but Fallout 3 was amazing without them. I've played them all in order and 3 was by no means garbage. As Zeta333 said, it's silly to compare those games as they are incredibly different. It would be nice if you provided examples just so I know why you think that, but that would be asking too much.
It's a Fallout game. Maybe it's like comparing a Granny Smith to a Red Delicious, but we're still talking about apples.

The entire game was dumbed down so it could fit on and be played by consoles. In regards to the previous Fallout games, perks became more like other games' talent or skill point systems, traits were removed entirely, and stats were made less important and had less of an impact on character development. Perks became one every level instead of one every three levels; skills became less reliant on base stats, and the amount of skill points you got was high, even for characters with low INT. Traits were removed entirely, and in many cases were simply added in as perks without their drawbacks - you could take a perk that made you more attractive to the opposite sex and improved interactions with them, but it didn't have the drawback of making interactions with the same sex worse, and they turned the Gifted trait (which gave you 1 extra point to each of your base stats, which could of course then be reassigned, at the cost of lower base skills and fewer skill points per leve) in to a simple "add a point to any stat you want" thing.

As far as gameplay, the game itself was stupidly broken; once you made your Shishkebab, all you did was run around and swing mindlessly at enemies with a constant Stimpack IV drip. It's not like Stimpacks were rare or expensive, and while you had to repair your Shishkebab often, that wasn't really a big deal either. Now, why did you have to do this? Because using guns was fucking terrible. Fallout 3 was made to act like a shooter with RPG elements, and yet it was garbage as a shooter - your aim didn't matter so much as your stats did, and it was absurd to point a rifle at someone's head and "miss" because your stats said you did. And then you get into the whole XP scaling thing, where a band of rag-tag raiders is as much of a threat to someone in power armor with a pulse rifle as they are to someone fresh out of the vault with nothing but a jumpsuit and a pistol...

You have to mod Fallout 3 to make it worth playing. Mods bring back the stat complexity, rebalance stats and skills so they aren't either worthless or overpowered (for example, Barter will actually serve a damn purpose when a single round of 10mm will cost you a whole pile of caps if your Barter skill sucks), and can also add in elements for those who want to become more immersed in the game. Stimpacks are no longer instant, and you can become addicted to them (as well as Rad-X and RadAway, junkie.) You can have more complex needs systems than what New Vegas' little piddly diddly "Hardcore" mode provides - not only do you need water and food, but you also have to balance protein, carbohydrates, and "nutrients" (basically a catch-all for all the other things a human body needs that aren't either proteins or carbohydrates.) There are mods that fix Fallout 3 so that using guns is more like using them in a shooter - your skills and stats still impact your accuracy and ability to use the gun, but you won't have idiotic situations where you point a gun at someone's head at close range and somehow manage to miss even with a high guns skill.

You can get mods that de-consoleize the interfaces, allowing for high-resolution fonts and textures, and better layouts. You can have mods that add a separate dedicated grenade key, and mods that add sprinting. You can have mods that add a wider variety of monsters and creatures to the gameworld (welcome back our friends the Wanimingoes, Geckos, and prepare to see more varied and more interesting Super Mutants!), and mods that dramatically improve the AI and capabilities of all enemies. Best of all, you can have mods that make the damn game more fair and more balanced overall - you'll need serious firepower to tackle someone in power armor (your little hunting rifle won't do much of anything, even with a headshot - the dude's in fucking POWER ARMOR), but at the same time once you have yourself a suit, the little piddly diddly .32 pistols and hunting rifles Raiders have will amount to being bee stings.

Those mods can also even things out so that the player is no longer a fucking walking tank. If you get shot in the head, you're dead, just like that Raider you shot in the head, so using cover and setting traps is not only a good idea, it's absolutely necessary for a large part of the game. Trying to trade blows with a Super Mutant whose Strength is like 500 while yours is 8 will not work out to your favor. You can knock down your enemies, and they can knock you down (based on Strength and Endurance stats; again, a Super Mutant with a 2 foot advantage and who outweighs you by 200 pounds will be difficult for you to knock down but won't have problems throwing you around if you aren't in heavy power armor.) Being close to a grenade or rocket blowing up can knock you down. Being crippled is much more devastating and problematic than it is in vanilla - you can't just stick a Stimpack in your arm and call it good. You need the appropriate skills, the appropriate perks, as well as the medical supplies necessary to perform the surgery, and it takes time for the limbs to heal. Or you can go pay a doc to fix you, assuming your Barter skill is sufficient so that he won't rob you for the work.

In short, mods make the game the way it was meant to be.

This post made me smile. A bit.

I'm so fed up with people dumping all over the recent fallout games. I really enjoyed playing them and thought they were the DBs in terms of gameplay, longevity, story etc.

It wasn't until I read this that I suddenly realised that most people were talking about vanilla Fallout 3 sucking balls, not the pimped out, modded beyond recognition game that I play.

I instinctively mod ALL bethesda games before I play them since I got hooked on Morrowind a hundred years or so back. They make great, great games but they are inherently flawed which usually requires modding in order to fix. A shame but I'm so used to it that it has become second nature to me now.

Thank you PizzaShark, for exactly telling why Fallout 3 was a bad Fallout game. And to a certain extent, a relative bad game in general without the mods.

p.s. I noticed RPG's like Fallout 3 never get played like an actual RPG. Most people just get the perks that make them kill things faster. Going only 1 in intelligence because "it's useless and you get enough exp anyway" and things like that. Like you said, the barter skill in vanilla Fallout 3 is worthless, you already get shitloads of bottlecaps, things are uber cheap, and you find stimpacks and what not ever 3 seconds. Quite strange for an APOCALYPTIC world.

And the VATS system, what a load of bullcrap in Fallout 3. You would get like A LOT less damage when it's activated, and no matter what your skill was the %'s always seemed ridiculous high. That and your own damage got boosted. Wait, what?

and here I thought I was gonna be the only one wanting this.

This is what I want. I never played Oblivion with mods, then I went to Morrowind... first thing I did was add mods and nudes and it made the game fun! Woo!

Well I for one am happy they are including modding resources with the game at launch and I plan on starting some weapon packs shortly after the game launches.
