    Any sci-fi games like Skyrim?

Hi, long time reader but first time poster here.

I'm stroked for the coming Skyrim game. I've played the other Elder Scrolls games, so I know I'll enjoy this one very much.

Now on to my question: are there any science-fiction themed games like Skyrim? I'd love it if there was games where I could pilot a spaceship to different worlds, asteriods, space stations and get off to explore different enivornments. (Ocean worlds, dry worlds, fire worlds, ice worlds, toxic worlds, alien forest worlds, the possibilities are endless).

The closest thing I could think of is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect games, both from Bioware. While they are certainly creative in their enivornment design, they are terribly limiting in how free you are to explore. (Not a true sandbox game, in that sense.)

But perhaps I'm missing something out there? Any of you guys aware of a sci-fi sandbox games?

    Thanks!

Well, Fallout 3 is a Sci-fi RPG and it's even from the same guys who made Skyrim, but there's no spaceship piloting, no.

Yeah if "post apocalypse" ticks your sci-fi boxes you need to go hook up fallout 3 game of year edition

I would go with Freelancer, a pretty neat game, unfortunately you can't visit planets in it, but its quite sandboxy.

As far as I'm aware there is no other game that builds the world up like an Elder Scrolls game with a sci-fi setting.

Fallout 3 and New Vegas (and the DLC's for each) are the closest bet, followed by Mass Effect.

This, Mass effect is closest to what you describe..

Fallout is more high tech and similar style game as skyrim but has nothing to do with space. Another game that springs to mind is the Metroid Prime trilogy which has diffrent planets, a great atmosphere and 1st person view, but its not an rpg and spaceship interaction is minimum..

I gotta agree. Fallout 3 and New Vegas are both awesome games and I've poured many hours into them and their DLCs. Still not quite what I'm craving for, however.

Deus Ex is a little more modern spy stealth type game. Not as open as Skyrim, but gives you quite a bit of freedom

I hope you mean stoked, because otherwise, that's dedication on a level we would be scared of

Unsure of any true or close to true sandbox games. Eve Online perhaps?
Huh, wha-, you want me to come closer? Oh, you don't wanna fight anymore? Oh, your hands are up there almost like you're beggin'... beggin' for a little piece of Boba... Yeah, ya like that, don't ya? You like it, 'cause you're bad... oh, yeah... you dirty, little smuggler...

One game that comes to mind is Starpoint Gemini. Your space ship is basically your character, you level up and pick perks such as improved shield regeneration or more accurate weapons. There's anywhere from 2-5 space stations per zone, each space station will have different values on goods if you trade goods, different space ships to buy and such.

But you cant explore space stations or planets, you're stuck in the confines of your space ship, and stuck on a 2d axis so no 3d movement. The game is really hard when you start out but gets gradually easier as you level up and acquire new ships and better parts. Theres a reputation system in place so if you kill too many ships from one faction that entire faction will become hostile to you.

The game is just one big sandbox in one game type and there's a story line in another.

If that tickles your fancy id say check out their demo on their website: http://www.starpointgemini.com/

The only games that fit your criteria are the fallout games. Mass Effect / Deus Ex are, really, nothing like the Skyrim style of games. They are not open world in the sense that you are limited by how much you can wander off the main mission. Mass Effect allows you to land on other planets and drive around a bit but there is nothing to see as such apart from the odd pirate base. Deus Ex there is little to no wandering.

If you are looking for a sci-fi rpg with a gripping story then, yes, they would fit the bill nicely but for an open world epic like Skyrim you may find yourself disappointed.
