use google. Radeons have a long history starting with 7000 in 2002 and after the 9800 they restarted their line in the the current series they have now starting with X800, X1800, then the HD series.

This thread totally made me remember that for our very first computer my parent's (totally against their normal mode of behaviour) decided to splurge and buy the version with the CGA 4 colour card. Our computer was the bomb, and when I was at the only other friend with a computer I was in total disdain cause it was a hercules amber one.

Thing is though that that computer with that card basically stayed our computer till years later when almost everyone had VGA cards in their computer allready and ours was hopelessly outdated. But then we got a new computer with VGA card and then suddenly our computer was the only one that could run the recently released "The 7th Guest" After just switching from dos games on a computer with a CGA card, that game was amazing

After that basically just the best price/quality card every 2-3 years or so, till I lost all interest in computer games and was more going out and partying with friends. Only really started buying computers with decent cards again past 8 years or so. Still rather basic cards on a best price/quality principle. Got a Evga 550 ti coming next week. That should last me another year or 2 again.

Not likely.... it's barely a gaming GPU as it is. I would suggest a GTX 560 at minimum.

I don't know the earlier ones, I was too young to have any knowledge of computer parts back then :P So I'll start with what I can remember:

    1. Geforce 2 MX200
    2. Radeon 9200
    3. Geforce 6800LE
    4. Geforce 7600GT
    5. 2x Radeon 4850 (Crossfire)

I'm still using the 2x Radeon 4850's I bought just about 3½ years ago and I can still play all new games on mostly high settings.
Best investment I've ever done when it comes to computers tbh.

The card that came in my first ever PC was a Riva TNT 32mb. PC was bought from TINY and came with a 17 inch monitor, a Pentium 3 slot type 500mhz CPU, 64mb ram, a whopping 17 gig HDD, crappy on-board sound, 2 speakers, a TV tuner card (never worked properly), DVD drive and a PCI 56k modem.
The cost for this beast of a PC ? £2500 after V.A.T (this was the year Aliens vs Predator launched and it was my first PC game)

Spent £80 on a Hercules 64mb AGP with TV-out (this was the time when Voodoo 3's were about)

Next was a 128mb card but i forget its make/model

Then i had a Nvidia GeForce 8500GT (probably 512mb but im not sure)

Card i got for my self built PC was a AGP Sapphire ATI Radeon X1600 pro 512mb (works and still have it in its box)

Mobo died so i had to get a PCI-e GPU to go with my new mobo but i can't remember what it was except that it was cheap and a 512mb model

And finally i recently got a CPU, RAM and mobo bundle from overclockers to go with my new HIS Radeon HD 5670 (display port version)

Yeah definately not top of the range or wallet breaking but they did/do the job

    RIVA TNT -> Geforce 2 GTS -> X1800XT -> X1950XT -> 8800GTS 320 -> 8800GTS 512 -> GTX 260 196 -> HD4870 -> HD5870.
