I prefer "grey". I'm from Texas; however, I have been a big fan of British literature since I was young, so maybe that pushed me towards the "European" spelling.

OT: Usually I use "grey". I used to like "gray" a lot more, but nowadays it's almost always "grey" for me. Curious.

I use both, and interchangeably. I had an English teacher once try to tell me that grey was incorrect, and if I needed to go back to elementary school to learn how to spell. After proving her wrong, I then proceeded to force myself to learn to switch the spellings at will. So that is why I spell it both gray and grey.
I like "grey" better, but I also like "color" better, so /shrug
Sometimes I'll switch up gray/grey, rarely will I do so with colour/color, though.
Other American/English spellings just depend.

When i say the word "gray" i actually pronounce it different than "grey". When I say "gray" i add an inflection at the vowel sound and it sounds more "lively", when I say "grey" there is no inflection and it sounds more melancholy. When I think of grey I think of melancholy, so I spell it "grey"
