When I've seen my buddies get hacked, I see the hacker farm instances with him, so this lock still has a place. Without it, the hackers spam the same dungeon repeatedly which hammers the instance server, causing problems for other players.

I put my faith in Blizz on this one, and just make sure I don't spam instances. The last time I got locked out, it was in Wrath and my own stupid fault for using ICC as a shortcut back to Dalaran, after doing a bunch of other short instances including VoA. Reflecting back on it, it was a dumb thing to do, and rather selfish to spawn a whole raid instance, just for my personal transportation needs.

it was put in back in vanilla, long before TBC dungeons

this easiest vanilla example i remember was people going into Dire maul to look for the book that started the Quel'serra chain, I had a friend doing it who could go in and look and get out and reset in under 5minutes, there was probably faster ways even, and he was far from the only one doing it, there was 10-15people popping in and out @ diremaul at any given time of day.

an instance "stays open" for like 30min (might be 15, I dont know exacts but its a fair bit of time), so just imagine the excessive amount of literally unpopulated instances sittin on a server.

Also instead of slandering someone who cant defend them selves, link examples of Bashiok insulting people and talking down to them. Prove your point.

It just dosent make a whole lot of sense but if anyone could give me a legit reason why this exists it would be nice.
You should play diablo2 on battle.net. You can't even change character several times without being banned for 10 minutes.
I'm not even talking about farming 1 boss all over again - 1-2-6-12 hour ban guaranteed. No matter if you did it with bot or not.

Thats the common way how blizzard solves the problems - they just add restrictions, they don't care if all players are affected by it, and spammers just add timers to bypass it.

There are millions of threads about this issue, but if you sill don't understand how it works: You can't enter new dungeon more than 5 times per hour. It affects all characters on your account - so if you entered 3 dungeons on one character and 2 dungeons on another, you will not be able to enter any dungeon on any character from the same account.

You can't do anything about it.

Votex pinacle is still worth being farmed, as the volatile airs that drop on the first set of trash still sell for alot (on my server atleast) and they drop quite frequently. I however dislike this mechanic, it has prevented me from entering an instance quite a few times, though mainly cause i am farming them (for rep -_-) or racing through old dungeons for guild achieves.

i'm pretty sure if i had replied to my customers like that when i was employed at my previous employer, i would have been fired on the spot.
as someone that works with customers all day i have the full permission of my employers that if someone is rude to me i can be rude back

this is wrong and if you check most companies no longer follow the customer is always right model for obvious reasons #1 being the customer is not always right

if you go into a store and do nothing but scream bitch and complain no matter how valid it is you will get escorted out by cops when they arrive

I worked customer service in retail for 7 years. I've worked in IT now for 14. If my customers (employees) act like asshats I will treat them like one.

If you ask Blizzard a question and they give a normal answer and you then proceed to make personal attacks (not professional, constructive feedback) you essentially have said I'm a dick, treat me like one.

Unfortunately that thread is from the old forums so neither of us can see the whole detail of the complaint from 2010...

So where exactly in the thread you quoted is he insulting people except at the end? Which probably means he banned someone but we can't see this.

Go watch the google video and you'll see why. It was to curb farming and in the exact time it was done there were hundreds of Large Brilliant Shards on the AH from dire maul. This was around BWL or AQ40 timeframe. Books of the dragonslayer were 100g because there were 75 copies on the AH.

They removed the chests from the TBC instances shortly after the expansion was in effect due to the rogue chest farming. But the instance lockout was vanilla.

I love the first main response "Instance farming doesn't even happen anymore". Well of course not to you, you're a player and not a gold farmer. Someone got hacked in my guild less than a month ago and their toon was online for almost 36 hours straight farming away.

This message is annoying but how many times have we as players actually seen it? And how many times has it actually inconvenienced someone other than ourselves?

    1) I have seen it accidently 2-3 times. Farming BC stuff for transmog, I've hit it a time or two and I've hit it with a weekend group I hang out with that farms Wrath raids for transmog as well. Although the ONLY reason we hit it with that group was that someone was saved to a boss and their empty instance put us over the count. Legitimate, quick, no one saved runs have never hit the timer.

    2) I have NEVER had to wait for someone's timer to wear off to get zoned in for a raid. I've raided 12 hrs a week (3 nights) in a 25 man guild since Cata came out pretty much and this has never happened. I don't remember it happening in Wrath but that was a long time ago and I'm old. How hard is it to look at the time and think "Oh I better not spam 5 dungeons in the next few minutes because I have raid coming up"? Most people are afk'd around Stormwind relaxing before raid anyways.

My opinion is this: Some dungeons offer a legitimate way of making money and some have cool gear for the new 4.3 options coming up and a lot of people want to take advantage of this. No problem with that part, but it would become exploit-ish if the cap weren't in place due to some classes being far more capable than others for solo'ing content. Imagine this easy scenario: Wailing Caverns has the Deviate Hatchling drop and the math works out to 5-7 runs roughly to get one and it only takes a couple minutes to clear the raptors so if there was no cap, someone that was bored could farm that place and get 2-3 pets in an hour. On my server, that would be thousands of gold for very little effort and people would get pissed that this one person made gold so easily when they worked much harder for less with gathering/crafting/fishing.

Also, this reminds me of the QQ explosion that occurred when they nerfed gold drops from the easiest raid bosses in-game. People don't like their money-making to be fucked with, but only when it's them making the money. You don't see the same people defending other exploit-ish ideas, just the ones that they use personally.

ps. All the people that are bitching about Bashiok's behavior towards rude posters... you have never had to deal with truly shitty/wrong customers before have you?
