It's a subjective topic, I've played both WoW and Rift from launch, I may have just out grown WoW and got bored of it so each is to their own. Rift has much faster content releases for every type of gamer from casual to raiders so I find myself with tons to do.

A huge 1gig content patch just dropped yesterday adding a new 5 man, 10 man and new zone just to mention a few things. A couple of videos to help you get a feel for the game.

Developers Diary of the latest patch:

A rift summary video, already out of date doesn't include yesterdays content patch:

It can be a really big grind at times, but what rpg isn't now and then.
I'm just warning you, you may actually be a walrus.
AND MY...! oh? we weren't doing... *ahem* Yes. I agree with that plan.

detailed (but cheesy) lore, nice graphics, random events, mindfuck starting zone, no pandas. it's okay, i guess. i cant stand the armour design and that there r only 2 cities though.....

I haven't truly played an MMO which is better. Though that isn't to say Rift is the best MMO- just no one has pulled off a stat progression based MMO with any greater degree of excellence.

Feel of combat is tight, responsive and very smooth. Lateral progression paths. Many world activities. Very fun dungeons and raids- if a bit easy w/r/t the latter. This is on top of a lot of modern quality of game features that (personally) I just couldn't put up with the lack of in other MMOs; love Twitter/Facebook integration, 1-button in-game recording, very fast update speed, low latency, wardrobe functions, adjustable UI on-the-fly, etc.

Not to mention Rift has the most robust and rapid content update of any MMO to date. In 8 months of live service, Trion have published 6 major content updates. That's only 2 months out of 8 when there wasn't a new feature, dungeon, raid or dynamic event added.

The game has only been out for 8 months it's doesn't have 7 years of content behind it to justify more cities, to be honest cities are now a ghost town with the new zone that just dropped in the latest content patch yesterday and world activities going on. I don't see what the point of having more then two major cities is in any game? There are many methods to get and back and forth to the main cities. I just don't see that as an actual bad point.

Are guilds still the same as in WoW? Same goes for raiding, is it 10/25 man raids?

No. There is 10 and 20 man raiding.

10 man raids are their own raid zones. 20 man raids, their own zones. In other words, there isn't a 10/20 man version of the same raid. They are distinct.

Most guilds work the same as they do in WOW, Everquest, Warhammer, Age of Conan... you get the idea.

Vanilla WoW in HD with 2011 quality infrastructure.

    Yea.

I think the expectation that Rift is totally unlike Warcraft leads to disappointment. Rift aims to be and succeeds at being an evolutionary to the tropes of Warcraft rather than revolutionary.

Basically, if one enjoys Warcraft but not the 7 year old look & feel- Rift is scratches that itch as well as has ever been done.

hmmz hard to dis agree actually and I am a huge fan. Take every single decision and go "man I wish they had done this instead" and you actually get Rift lol

I wish they added content faster
I wish 20 and 10man raids were separated and not the same crap
I wish there was a reason to leave the city
I wish they never charged for transfers
I wish they gave me more options for roles so I do not have to roll so many alts
I wish they took the good stuff from EQ2
I wish there was more solo/duo/5man content

Rift is like a mmo vets wish list

    Also accurate, Mallace.

I said this before in other threads; But I didn't start playing Rift because I was sick of or looking for a game different from WOW. The appeal of Rift was it structurally had many of the elements I enjoyed in Warcraft- but it didn't play/look like a Warcraft 3 mod.

Rift is modern, sleek, attractive and polished while still giving me the stat progression/role division gameplay I enjoyed a lot in WOW.

If one is looking for something unlike WOW, better off waiting for GW2 or the like. IMO.

I always expected Trion to get bought out and Rift to be turned into WoW 2.0. Rift is basically what Cata should have been, IMO.

great game. 10/10. i'd be playing it still if it wasn't that my old laptop died and my current one cant handle the graphics (7fps in Meridian fml!)

Ember Isle looks amazing. Wish I could check that out.

Guess that's what $400 gets you lol. I'll update you soon, crappy processor.....

It's odd. I get 20-30fps in SWTOR's Beta. 40-50 in WoW. Yet somehow only 5-10 in Rift. Saddens me...

That was my experience with Rift as well. I could play AoC with 60 fps but Rift was down to 20.

Does raiding take place at max level only? And how long would it take to get to said max level playing 10-15 hours a week? weeks, months?

70-100 hours to get to 50 if you are pushing it. Instanced raiding is only at max levels, but zone events and rift closing is from 1-50 for sure.

This is what enticed me to go to rift but ultimately I had to quit because the controls were terrible, or at least not as good as wow's which is the minimum I will accept in a new video game in this day and age.

Have they improved this to any capacity? Been bored of wow but ive diverted my attention to SC2 in the mean time.
