Looking for a desktop for WoW.

Looking to spend maxium £700 on a computer where the only game I'll be playing on it is WoW. I'd like to preferrably order from pcspecialist.co.uk. Want to play on ultra settings without any serious lag.

On the top left part of the site, you can click build your own desktop. From there you can choose if you want an AMD based system or Intel based system. Then can you choose the budget. Afaik it'd be best to switch the budgets around sometimes. The only one I've looked at and switched around some parts in are the £500-3000 budget AMD based system. Thanks

Do you have an existing HDD? Are you planning to overclock it? Do you need a copy of Windows?

Alright, well, this is the best you can do on that site in terms of raw performance. Ignore their suggestion to use a 450w PSU, that's awful advice, and you'd really be pushing it with this build. You can swap down your HDD to a 250GB one and get a better case, but that's up to you.

Regardless, with that budget on that site, you're unfortunately not going to be able to max everything. You'll need shadows on medium-ish and have multisampling at 1x or 2x. Otherwise, you should be fine.

If you honestly believe you'll only ever play WoW, this is the best possible build from the first choice in the Intel section:

    Case
    COOLERMASTER ELITE 310 BLUE CASE

    Processor (CPU)
    Intel® Core™i5-2500 Quad Core (3.30GHz, 6MB Cache) + HD Graphics

    Motherboard
    ASUS® P8H61-M LE/USB3 (NEW REV 3.0): M-ATX, USB 3.0, SATA 3.0Gb/s

    Memory (RAM)
    8GB SAMSUNG DUAL-DDR3 1333MHz (2 X 4GB)

    Graphics Card
    1GB AMD RADEON™ HD6850 - 2 DVI,HDMI, DP - DX® 11, Eyefinity 3 Capable

    Memory - 1st Hard Disk
    500GB SATA-II 3-Gb/s HARD DRIVE WITH 16MB CACHE (7,200rpm)

    1st DVD/BLU-RAY Drive
24x DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAM

    Memory Card Reader
INTERNAL 52 IN 1 CARD READER (XD, MS, CF, SD, etc) + 1 x USB 2.0 PORT

    Power Supply
    600W Quiet 80 PLUS Quad Rail PSU + 120mm Case Fan (£59)
Otherwise, if you ever think you'll play any other game on your PC, this will do better from the second choice in the Intel section:

    Case
    COOLERMASTER ELITE 310 BLUE CASE

    Processor (CPU)
    Intel® Core™i3-2120 Dual Core (3.30GHz, 3MB Cache) + HD Graphics

    Motherboard
    ASUS® P8Z68-V LX: USB 3.0, SATA 6GBs, ATI®CrossFireX

    Memory (RAM)
    8GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz, X.M.P (2 x 4GB KIT)

    Graphics Card
    1GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 560 Ti - 2 DVI,HDMI,VGA - 3D Vision Ready

    Memory - 1st Hard Disk
    500GB SATA-II 3-Gb/s HARD DRIVE WITH 16MB CACHE (7,200rpm)

    1st DVD/BLU-RAY Drive
24x DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAM

    Memory Card Reader
INTERNAL 52 IN 1 CARD READER (XD, MS, CF, SD, etc) + 1 x USB 2.0 PORT

Then go ahead with the first build. The main difference is CPU over GPU in the first build since WoW is heavily CPU dependent, especially in raiding environments, pvp, etc. WoW will never come close to capping out a 6850. Therefore, the first build has a far superior CPU.

The second build is an even split between CPU and GPU which would perform better in most other modern games that demand more from your GPU.

PCSpecialist is bad value for money. Get one from OCUK. Spec it with an i5 2500k if possible. Nothing more, as it is the idela processor for WoW and you will not see improvement with an i7 2600k. And then upgrade to the best graphics card for whatever is left. Best get a NVIDIA graphics card as they perform better in WoW over AMD/Ati

E.g. this one http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...d=2040&subcat= and then select a GTX 560Ti as your graphics card, and it comes to exactly £659. No OS though. Hopefully you have one. May have to juggle a few bits around if u want to fit an OS for that price.

That's not including VAT either. That build would cost around 900.

What are you on about? It includes VAT.

It would come to £738 with the OS and including VAT and for a much better build + pre-overclocked to 4.4 GHz for ultimate gaming goodness. It's got a custom CPU cooler and all that jazz so if he ever figured out how to OC sandybridge (which is so easy) he could easily take it to over 4.6GHz.

It is £38 overbudget but it would be a gaming rig that would last him for a long time to come on what is currently simply the best CPU out there for gaming. The same can't be said of the i3.

600W is enough for SLI and really a place to save money for this kind of a build. 450W is more than enough, especially if without overclocking, but even with.

Money saving with PSU will only give you crap that can blow up or start a fire. High quality 450W is indeed enough for this build, but low quality 450W is not.
