All my friends signed up for 12 months of WoW, How do I convince them to get TOR??

They all took the bait and wanted diablo 3 so they signed up for 12 months of WoW but now they are all weary to try SWTOR. Unfortunately they were unable to participate in the beta so they have no way of demoing the game and basically no one wants to pay 2 sub fees. What do I tell them to convince them to get this awesome game?!?! Bioware 10 day trial PLS!

You can unsub from annual pass until the 29th. Just talk to a GM. That could convince some of them.

I mean...if they really want to play it, they'll have to buckle down and pay it, if even just for a month. I understand that dropping 50 bucks just for a month of "testing" it is a bit much, but hey, it was their choice to sub for 12 months. : /

Thats the basic jist of what I would tell em. : /

I would recommend trying to get out of that contract unless you are positively sure you will be playing WoW for those 12 months. Also, if any of your friends would desire the Diablo 3 CE, that 12 month contract is useless. ;p

Not really, when you add D3 CE to your account AND you have signed up for annual pass, you get 3 or 4 months play time for wow for free added to your account.

Uhh, if they plan or think they might play WoW again, even if it's only a "eh maybe", I'd suggest you advise against dropping the contract. Yes, you can drop it, but they have people who sign up for it agree to terms that allow blizzard to lock your account, until all 12 months or the remainder you haven't payed for yet are paid in full, and from what I've heard they can demand it all at once too. That means if your friends come back, they could be looking at a $15 bill to start playing again, or a $165 bill (assuming they already paid for the first month).

I wouldn't convince them to do anything personally, it could create some really bad situations between friends. Leave it up to them, if you convince them to play TOR and they later find out what happened to their accounts because they canceled their WoW sub, you might be losing some friends.

The year long plan was a scheme and downright dirty of Blizzard.

I've convinced a few by asking them to speak with their thoughts, by ninjaing out of the contract and letting their money do the talking. I'm very happy to join whatever number of players switch. The company should be loyal to their fans. Keyword should.

I wouldn't call it dirty. What people apparently refuse to realize is: It's an agreement. You agree to pay for 12 months and blizzard agrees to give you free stuff, so guess what, Blizzard is going to expect you to hold up your end of the bargain just as you expect to get D3 for free, among other things. You break the agreement, there will be consequences. Anyone who considers this unfair or underhanded on Blizzards half of the deal, obviously doesn't understand the magnitude of what they're agreeing to, and shouldn't be signing up for it in the first place.

Edit: It is an enticing deal, but anyone who signs up for it without knowing what they're agreeing to deserves exactly what they get, they need to be responsible and make sure it's worth it before they get all excited like a little 10yo over D3.

Stop being sad over which videogames you and your friends play? Sounds like a plan, yes?

It's a flashy deal mean't to lock you in before you could really know how awesome swtor is. They'll pull a similar tactic when GW2 is launching, probably a content patch. I find it no different from massive cell phone contracts for fresh college students. Sure it's legal, but I frown upon it. I didn't even consider the deal as I won't be playing D3 due to the real money AH.

Just wait awhile after release, they will have some sort of free weekend or a trial. If you play an MMO right as it comes out, chances are youll lose interest before it gets good.

I signed up for 12 months mainly for D3, but figured I will most likely be playing the game on and off. I was in TOR beta and I preordered this weekend. I can't get over how much I like it.

why is there such animosity for a company that provided you with hours upon hours of fun. Albiet for a cost, but everything fun now costs something.

Tell them to pay for both subs, it's really not that big of a deal. For both subs it's $360. Unless you're against getting a job, that's easy to come by.

If you add the Diablo 3 CE to your account with the Annual Pass, you're automatically credited four months of free game time for WoW (worth $60).

i cant cancel it, i have to talk with a gm?

  18. #18
They aren't going to lock you in or anything, unless something has drastically changed recently all that happens if you cancel is you lose the beta access, you lose the "free" D3, and you keep the mount if 4.3 has released already. If you cancel now you lose everything. They can't force you to pay the full year and they aren't going to lock the thousands upon thousands of accounts that are going to try and back out.

I spoke to a GM last night about un-subbing from the annual pass, and he said that the Annual pass is a bound contract and you cannot cancel after you have bought it. Meaning if you tell your bank to cancel the payment then Blizz will freeze your account until you pay them and to add onto that they will cancel all of your annual pass awards. So... once you have bought it that's it.

So they will play WoW and once SWTOR is out for a bit if they are interested they will come play and bite the bullet? I don't see the issue here, we will still have plenty of people for launch without your friends.
