Even if you didn't know the origins of the word, that it was a neologism meaning a little bit of idea like a gene is to genetics, there's no sound reason for an English speaker to think it would be pronounced "mee-mee'. I get thinking it would be pronounced 'may-may' because I speak Spanish (poorly) as my second language and it would be analagous to 'bebe' which is pronounced 'bay-bay'.

Guess what I'm getting at is why exactly are other people's incorrect pronunciations 'ridiculous' but 'mee-mee' isn't?

the "correct" way is just as ridiculous. if they wanted it pronounced "meem" then they should have SPELLED it "meem". or "meam, whatev.

Though I agree with you, I know that Me-Me is a girls name that isn't used much, but it is an English Language name. Last time I heard that that name used was on 'The Drew Carey Show' back in 1999.

Rofl, I tried changing that to norwegian(written as meme as we say it) just to hear how the computer would say it, and it sounded like a hyperactive woman .

The swedish translation sounded quite good though. I thought you said meh-meh though, due to some other guys in this thread, but guess it could be a dialect thing or simply based on whether you base it on how it is pronounced in english or how it's written.
