lvl 50 melee pvp discussion - anyone get multiple 50's during the beta?

so, obviously none of the weekend only testers achieved this but i have one friend who has been a full tester almost since the beginning, and had at least one 50. But he hates melee pvp so i wont ask his opinion.

during my two weekends i got a shadow, a guardian, and a sentinel to 16ish and did as much warzoneing as practical. But at this level comparing classes in pvp is worthless. Did anyone around here get any melee classes to 50 and do some pvp? everyone says JK is trash and everyone votes consular but i think thats a bunch of newb crap and wanted to hear some objective discussion by those in the know.

as far as melee pvp basics go it appears they all have the 'basics', being a gap closer (jump or pull), a slow, and a stun. Guardians in the tank tree get 2 or 3 stuns? guard has an aoe slow while sentinels have a single target slow, etc etc.

    thoughts?

Didn't level to 50 myself, but perhaps http://www.twitch.tv/innverse will help show some of the strengths of a 50 melee. There are several hours of pve and pvp footage of a level 50 jedi shadow(analogue to sith assassin) there. He also adds quite a bit of commentary on other classes. You can also find some links to other decent SWTOR stream caps there.

im worried one person wont be objective enough. which is why i wanted to try and spark a discussion here. hell, it doesnt even have to be 50 only. even 40s is close enough.

but thanks for the tip, ill check that site out.

Check this guys videos, http://www.twitch.tv/monkeygenius , he plays Jugg tank spec in PvP at 50, with 3 friends, so it's abit biased since he plays with 3 decent people that carry the teams with him.

Although it also shows that melee are fine for PvP, especially when in the right hands. With melee, I found they got much better once you got to 30+ and had unlocked all of your core abilities, and your utility skills/CC.

You totally ignored another melee DPS Operative/Scoundrel option.

This class plays alot like a WoWs sub rogue (minus shadowstep /sadface), has a CoS type ability, dispells, and a 12 second snare that roots for 2 seconds when used.

Combine that with burst out of stealth, recuperate, and vanish along with the ability to kite other melee through midrange gun attacks the Conceal/Scrapper speccd class is a good melee in PvP.

Any other inquiries you might have on this class just let them fly, I played it to 50 in the most recent beta and got up to ~ Valor 30 rank PvPing.

I also played pure healer Operative and a hybrid Medic/Conceal oeprative that was a monster 1v1.

oh i thought op was all ranged!

ill be totally blunt, i really wanted to play guardian. it was the first toon i played my first weekend and i liked it a lot in PVE. but i really felt it was lacking in pvp. i dont think it totally sucked and was broken, and i am totally cool with guarding nodes and actually playing defensive, but now that people at 50 are saying its not all bad i feel a bit better. its why i rolled a shadow this weekend - and i like how with force you can front-load damage as aposed to focus were you have to build it up. but i just prefer guardian. but i was getting kited and stun locked a bunch in pvp. and my damage seemed sub-par.

I felt pretty OP 1 vs 1 as well as pretty wicked single-target damage + healer suppression on my shadow after level 24. (played it to 28). And that was without like half the CC abilities you get later on.

I plan to play the Jedi Knight Sentinel at launch and have heard many things about melee doing research... well more or less just Marauder/Sentinel. I hear very few of the players that have reached 50 or close to it sing praises about them in PvP. Then I hear a majority of players saying that they are a wasted slot in a group. Snipers/Gunslingers 2 shot them, CC'd to death, can't put a dent into Sage/Sorc with bubbles/heals, etc.

    *shrug*

I will just have to find out at launch. =)

ranged classes in tor have an advantage... JG/SJ are really lacking in the damage department but sent/mara seem to be a mix between a fury warrior(hence there the fury mechanic for marauders) and combat rogues in wow. they have alot of unique utility and hots depending on your spec plus medium armor

its either going to be a marauder or a vanguard for me :P

hey Herrenos, how many cc's/stuns do shadows get by 50?

for that matter, is there a complete skill list anywhere?

I ran into Lina a Jedi Shadow on Dartk Malak in Ilum, they have tons of videos around showing off Shadow PvP. They caught me off guard and killed me in ~ 3 seconds with their companion out.

I shall be living on torhead, I love the setup they have and don't want to get use to another one.

yeah i watched all the vids, reviewed all the abilities - and im still torn.

im not even worried about pve capabilities as much as i am pvp fun. i dont need to top damage meters or kbs to have fun in warzones i like control, and harassing the opfor on nodes and keeping them from capping and stuff. which is why guardian jumps to the front of the pack for me. i tried shadow this last weekend because i had convinced myself that guardians are not effective in pvp - but that does not seem to be the case.
