    Space Combat is Fun!

One of the biggest surprises for me has been how fun space combat is. I wrote it off to the point that I did not even bother doing it in beta. I hope that others do not make the same mistake. All I can say is, upgrade to at least level 1 ship before you do.

I would not buy a game that only had it, but it is a great way to change things up in between planets or quests. It also gives good experience. Make sure to check it out even if it does not sound appealing.

I never understood all he grief that space combat got. It's basically the funnest side-game I've ever played in any MMO. Leaps and bounds ahead of the standard fishing/barding/whatever.

Space combat is my favorite pass time, especially while sending companions off for trade skills. Would love to earn a new ship through this or something, I would love a choice of starships, or even PVP space combat... damn that'd be epic

The possibility for future expansion of the space combat part of the game is really exciting... it's a good little minigame at the moment but I'm really looking forward to see what they do with it in the future.

I have a lot of hope for it. They need to set up raids/operations, where your 16 man group has ro space battle into a battle group then enter and take down the ship.

Or epic PVP battles with the same set up.

Are there cities in the game on space stations? That would be neat if there are they are constantly under attack from the other faction.

I was all "keep vehicles out of my game" because of WoW's horrific implementation, but I actually welcome space combat in other areas of the game. It would be epic to fly in as a fleet and take out defense systems before starting a raid. Like a flame leviathan gone right. That would just tie it all together.

I love it too. The only thing that keeps me from playing more is I"m afraid I'll outlevel all the content on planets by playing too much.

I found it enjoyable the first couple of times. After that nothing really changes, other than the difficulty supposedly getting harder, which it hasn't.

More times than not, I find myself completing the mission, then having to sit in there for another 2-3 minutes being bored.

Somebody just needs to get their act together and finally remake TIE Fighter, but not destroy it by modernizing the game and dumbing it down.

Its cool that as you level more and more missions open up to you. I wonder how many missions are open at max level. Also, in earlier missions it seems like there are targets that you can lock on to but you apparently can't destroy, or perhaps can't destroy with lower level weaponry. I'm wondering once you get level 50 and have torpedoes if you can destroy the target at the bottom of the Balmora station, then perhaps you get to see the whole station blow up or something.

Crippling the Imperial Destroyers is sooo satisfying. When it first came out, I used to play the final level of Shadows of the Empire on the N64 and ignored the actual mission and just made attack runs on the destroyer, even though you couldn't do any damage to it, just because it was more fun!

An operation that spans between 2 planets could easily incorporate a space battle where 8-16 people would have to do things like man the guns and have others in the party fend off infiltrating enemies that are boarding the ship. Would be so sick!

yeah thats a great idea! This is what my hope for SWTOR, that there would be epic battles. And they really don't have to worry about comparisons to WOW, because SWTOR don't need dragons, we have IMperial Destroyers and Deathstars to TAKE DOWN! (yes I know the game comes before all that but you get my point)

indeed. the possibilities are nearly endless when you have so many things like that to cross breed.

I absolutely love the space missions. It is a fantastic change of pace addition to the game. I would probably play them if they were an independent game because they are incredibly well done.

LOL i guess it does sound much like that, but it would be much larger than everyone on a tiny lil airship. Having to cut off partitions from invaders and split your group up between a few things. i mean really you can even have small fighters launch from a starship and have dog fights all while other parts of the team are manning guns and others are fighting off invaders. Not as seperate fights, but all in the same moment of battle.

While we're on the topic of space combat missions, does anyone here have tips for the Taspan Ambush mission? I'm level 29 and have bought all the upgrades available by this level, but I can't keep my escort ship alive. Is there some priority to targets I should be using? There are too many destroyers/turrets for my arsenal of 40 missiles.

I tried my first couple missions this morning and they are a ton of fun. I can see myself doing them in between every jump from planet to planet. The amount of xp points they give for the amount of time you have to put in should make these missions a no brainer. Some of the first missions last 3-5 minutes and you get some 10-11k xp for it? Heh, it almost feels like an exploit. :P

The space combat missions are fun. I like them a lot. I was taken by surprise to be honest, didn't think I'd enjoy them that much
