Did you get Orange text'd mod gear at an early level and just keep upgrading the mods or just get new ones once you see an upgrade from a quest or a flashpoint? Just curious how what the ratio is on this.

You get your first shot at orange gear drops from the first flashpoint (lvl 10~), also you get at least two more orange chests from quests on the second planet (lvl 10-16~).
"In order to maintain a tolerant society, the society must be intolerant of intolerance." Paradox of tolerance
Considering how easy mods are to get, I prefer to just upgrade my gear with them and sell any boe items even if they are an upgrade or pick commendations over gear rewards from quests.
i have a mix of both i keep trying to upgrade with mods but if the quest reward is better i may take it. right now im half orange half blues
To me it's all about the look anyway. Since I can extract mods.. if I see something I like.. I could literally extract all the mods on the current gear and apply to the new one.. Once in a while I do just take a new orange item from FP and use that as a template.
The entire craft item system is pretty much just WoW's transmogrification anyway.
Sometimes I get other orange gear that looks better and then I upgrade those until I find something that looks even better.
You will find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.
it depends on if the stats from the upgrade are actually more beneficial than the mods on my orange
I kept upgrading orange pieces, all from quests. Funny since I haven't seen anyone else using the same look. Especially at later lvls the quests were just handing out mods, commendations, or companion gear.
I prefer to keep orange pieces because I like to go with a specific look. I sometimes upgrade this with different orange items when I think they look better but other than that I tend to look the same for quite a few levels. Things like bracers and such I upgrade on the go though, because those aren't visible anyway.
I have kept the helm from about level 20 (currently level 36) because it looks so good but anything else I'll upgrade (and take mods etc from the old gear if they're better). It's a great system.
I love the way nothing gets destroyed (unless you choose to), unlike gems in WOW. Nothing goes to waste, you can pass mods/gear on to your companions, or sell/RE them.
I'll upgrade an orange peice to another orange peice that looks better. That's it.
Actually, unless I'm missing something, all mods bind to you when you equip them. Ever time I've removed them from my gear, they all say 'bound'. I had the same idea to send them to alts and such, but it doesn't seem like it's possible. Maybe it's just the quest and commendation gear that binds? Dunno. I haven't tried it with crafted mods yet, as I haven't had the need to remove the ones I currently have equipped.
As to the OP, I nabbed orange pieces as soon as I could! My Consular, being female, is wearing the dancer gear from the Security Vendor :-) I just picked up orange bracers last night, just need an orange belt and I'm set to 50!
The fact that you can remove the mods and put much better mods to retain that same look is quite amazing by BioWare devs. I am glad I can retain some level 30 gear and still look good until I started getting Eternity Vault gear, then I started to look more enhanced. Then again, I enjoy the modding system on the loot and keep that same look.
Mods are technically BoE, so once they are put into gear or removed (in the case of BoE gear that came with mods) they become bound and only you and your companions can benefit from them.
I personally Just go trying to find orange pieces to hold onto all the way to 50 and just swap out mods at the end of each planet (Since I usually get like 10-15 without trying). I only ever change the actual armer when I find something that looks cool, like my agent stumbling across an orange chest piece that looked like the imperial uniform. It just seems easier to replace modification than to look for whole new pieces that have the stats you're after.
Also, I go out of my way to get my main companions orange gear as well. Went and did a bunch of pvp to get Kaliyo a new set of pants and chest from the lvl 20 selection of bounty hunter equipment to mod up to lvl 35 standards.
Thanks endersblade, now I had to buy the authenticator LOL
