Space missions are fun, except some seem to be a bit too duplicate of eachother with a few more enemy space ships and a different name, if they add more content for them, and maybe different types of ships/upgrades or even space flight zones in the future it can promise a lot of extra content or expansion of some sort.

the missions remind me of demon star... i still get a kick out of playing that game!

As a life long fan of the original X-Wing and TIE-Fighter games, i find space combat to be a massive let down.

Anything that gives that amount of XP, credit and fun and allows you to barrel roll must be made of win.

I love them, they are one of my favorite elements of the game so far, and allowed me to basically skip Alderran.

I'm looking forward to seeing the mini game developed

I'm liking them, and even going back to do the first ones for the dailys is exciting as new mods suddenly give you new options. Like last night, I finally downed Balosar Station (as in blew up every section including the lower antenna array) on my trooper. Well chuffed! Doesn't matter a damn mission-wise, but It's a new milestone for me.
On my Consular I'm still trying to get Makkam Te destroyed. Got the mission and bonuses, but can't quite seem to get enough to blow the ship up too.

Those were 2 FULL games. You cant be that upset that a mmo mini-game doesnt have the same level of gameplay as 2 full games can you?

Comon you know you love em.

A third of star wars universe is about space combat, flying ships on open space fighting against their enemies, with lasers and force shield, with the force guiding their reflexes. You can ignore the whole roleplay part of the game, but thats a big thing for me (and for bioware), and on top of the voice-over quests, space combat makes me feel immersed to the game (for the duration of the missions, at least).

Maybe you are just not a roleplayer at all and cant get the vibe from it, but to each their own. Now to the topic:

Space Combat? Yes, it is there, but how many actually played it intensivelly, its fun, repetitive as sonic 2, but damn its fun. Upgrading your ship makes it insanely stronger (compared to... no upgrades, obviously).
You go from 20 missiles to 40 just in the first upgrade of your missile launcher, you also upgrade the fire rate of your blasters, shooting twice as many lasers each second.
You get a defensive shield that absorbs damage, and will recharge itself if you are not using the engine for your blasters.
You get armor for your ship, absorbing damage making your ship last much longer to direct damage.
And finally, you get "trinkets", which are abilities that you can use a few times that can greatly turn the battle into your favor (destroying multiple small ship at once? 1-shotting that enemy that would take 5 missiles to take down?).

And you can do space missions while sending your crew to gather materials, the credits you obtain from the mission will pay for their trip. Sometimes you will get ship upgrades from completing the daily space missions, saving you money on upgrading your ship (the first upgrades are about 500-600 credits each, like 5 or 6 pieces, vendors can be found near spaceports).

There is more to space combat than just a rail shooter. We just gotta wait for:
    1) Multiplayer missions.
    2) More missions.
    3) Possibility to visually change our ship.
    4) Possibility to get a different ship.
I agree multiplayer mission AND free control in space OMG that would be awesome just to go aroudn planet, IMAGINE there could also be space PvP it woul dbe awesome PLEASE eve merge with star wars

IMO they should leave the on rail shooter (its already ther why remove it) and add the rest like free flying (in space ) entering/orbiting planet, pvp space combat, ZOMG housing in asteroid, or landing on random asteroid to kill a giant worm (kind of raid boss you drop on asteroid put on space suit go kill boss) Imagine a raid space combat mission lol (just one if good and player liek it do it moar). There is UNLIMITED POTENTIAL in space combat

You get bonus xp for blowing the antenna

Full 3d space combat would be awesome. Tie fighter and x wing are such old games now it seems like it wouldnt be hard to add that engine with an updated graphics engine. I always wanted to play tie fighter multiplayer. Also, piloting guild capital ships with multiple people operating different parts would be awesome.

The last time I was so addicted to a Minigame was when i played Final Fantasy X and started Blitzball. On my newer Toons I don't do Space Combat cuz I don't want to Level too fast after I saw what happened with my first char. But Space Combat is great.

After finding out that blowing up the comms array on Balosar Outpost, and the Bridge on the Capital Destroyer in...Makem Te Assault I think, gives me something like 2.9k EXP and 2.5k credits, I've been doing them on repeat lol. That's a total of around 3.2k credits for ~5 minutes of work. And it's fun as hell. Much more fun than out running quests, for sure!

It's fun. I just hope they add more features later on

I was never a fan of Star Fox and whatnot (in fact, I usually managed to fail horribly at those type of games), but I'm loving the SWTOR space missions. They're fun, and challenging at first, but then get easier. Easy EXP and credits.

They could've at least given free-flight, within the contained quest area, I think that would've been a reasonable compromise

As it is now, it just feels a little... arcadey
Rest In Peace, World of Warcraft. Subscriber count doesn't matter, WoW has been dead in spirit for a while
Rest In Peace, Star Wars the Old Republic. SWTOR is a fun RPG, but a bad MMO

You know, I was advocating that same thing for the longest time. But now, after running so many of them, I can see a huge problem with it being free flight. For one, you'd get some of the missions completed in a matter of 1-2 minutes, whereas the quest itself runs on for 5. There's also the fact that several of the missions just have SO MANY objects to dodge, it'd take an ace pilot to get through them all. As well, there are some missions that slowly feed you your targets. If you're in free flight mode, how are they supposed to do that? Or would you prefer to have 60 fighters shooting at you all at once? What about the escort mission(s)? It would also make blowing up the big-ticket items trivial, like the Capital ships and the arrays on the bottom of the outposts. It would essentially turn every mission into "How many targets can you blow up in 5 minutes?" and completely negate the point behind most of them.

Granted, from a purely profit point of view, I'd love free flight. So much exp, so many credits to be had from all the targets you just don't have time to blow up normally!

I do my daily space missions every day. You need to find all the hidden bonus objectives.

Your post have hardly started, and youve already shown what you have to say is waste of time, first trying to insult a big amount of people, tho without doing it very well. and second by using a made up number as a fact.

I actually love them. Currently having issues with Drexel Sweep mission and my favorite at the moment is the mandorian minefield.

Im of the opinion that both styles should be available, the rail-shooter makes it feel like we are in a movie, while the free flight would remind me of N64 rogue squadrom, which you always got lost with the missions for the first time and had to run it 2 or 3 times to figure out what to do.
Current missions are fine as they are, i like them.

What im expecting most are multiplayer missions (even if its only 2 people flying around the same area to destroy the same objective), and space ship duels (just how awesome would that be with 3D free flight).
People take stupidity to a whole new level when they sit in front of a computer.

I don't agree with the first statement about RPing in an RPG. Playing an RPG doesn't mean you have to be all "Hail and well met!" to everyone you meet.

As for space combat, I do like it but it's really repetitive. There's even duplicate missions with different enemy ship health/damage. It'll be interesting to see how they expand upon it in the future, but as of now it's something I do once and don't do again. When I see a new space combat mission, I'll do it, then maybe do the daily for it once, and then that's it.
