    Possible to lose companions?

The other day in general chat, I logged into the middle of a conversation where someone mentioned 'everyone gets 5 companions in the game' and someone else replied 'unless you get rid of them'. I personally am not worried about spoilers, but I guess for the sake of the forum-goers, is it possible (spoiler-free) to lose/kill/not pick up a companion on purpose?

I dont think there is a way to lose one, make them not happy..yes, but not lose one?

yes you can kill your companions. Your choices are permanent in this game make your choices well.

I believe it was possible/or discussed during beta if I remember. But there were complaints of people killing off thier companions then being upset that they couldn't get them back(duh?), so it was removed.

    edit for sources:

Totally by accident. Now I am gimped. Can I haz back?” there are) to the launch population and that made clear that this feature was not a winner.

No idea, but I had the choice to tell Kira to die for me in one of my class quests. I was torn, I'm full evil baring the Light Side points I had from this quest because I didn't want to risk it. Need Dark V to reset my light. It's a stain on my dark nature.

You currently can not permanently lose your companions.

C2 N2 keeps tempting me, I think he is Satan, with he claim he would go down with the ship.... meaning I so wish I could rid myself of him , or at least have him ride on the OUTSIDE of the ship

No you can't killed them off. If you level up, only pvping or doing flashpoints, you want get them. Only way to acquire more companions, up to 5 is by doing your Class' Story. Still in some class, during the part of an Act, a companion might be unavailable for story reason.

SPOILER ALERT ----> As a Imperial Agent, Kaliyo gets kidnapped in Act 3.

Awesome responses, thanks :-) I kinda figured you couldn't lose them, but it stirred up quite the shit storm on general chat, and basically ended in, "nuh-uh!" "yah-huh!"

Yes, I can totally imagine if you COULD lose your comps, people would probably start quitting the game in droves as they did so. But I've played Lineage before, so I know what it's like when you can permanently lose something you worked so hard for ><

    There's actaully 6 companions

But anyway, as already mentioned it was removed. IIRC in the KOTOR games you could kill them, was probably a continuation of that.

I tried having my ship blow up in a space mission, that didn't do it. Damn things lives.

I don't count the droid lol. Like so many others, I'm plotting and scheming to get him dismantled, possibly turned into an intergalactic toaster or something.

Not gonna lie...if it was possible to lose a companion I would have gotten mad. LOL I got a bit upset in my commando quest where aric jorgen got injured and I thought he was gonna die. Turns out the storyline will not kill him regardless of the choices made.

they removed the option as it would suck permanently losing them and you don't get reloads in an mmo. I say it's for the best.

Yeah, I think the QQ on... well, everywhere, would be enormous. Was a good design decision to prevent you from being able to kill your companions.

You can't seem to kill them off, so to speak. Companions don't seem to get so angry they ever leave either. I treated a few like garbage and it's pretty much artificial the =/- thing. In gameplay terms companions have to serve a needed function. The devs can't actually deny players that function in an MMO. It's just story / flavor all the relationship stuff.

    They are bots. Not pals.

    So, not losable, after all?
How bad would be losing one or a couple in terms of ingame advantages, anyway?

no, all companions are given "main character powers" and will never be killed/rid of them. I've got some examples but don't want to spoil the story for anyone PM me if you want to hear them. It's kind of like when your character does an action that would should get yourself killed but because your the main character the story writes itself into a situation where that won't happen, same applies to them

At one point Companions were absolutely able to be removed (killed in the story or just leave you) that was removed because of the persistent nature of MMO's, I can see the point where companions would have left you if it was kept but the story and choices is rewritten to make it imposable to lose them
I haven't enjoyed myself this much since the sacking of Coruscant!
