    and I'm a mormon...

Does anyone else remember seeing these adds pop up everywhere recently?

I've seen them on TV, and I've seen a slew of them pop up on the internet over the past year.

Anyone else think it's a little coincidental that all of these Mormon adds are popping up when we've got one in the GOP race?

    Coincidence? Or preparation?

Probably due to Mitt Romney's presidential bid. And with him winning the New Hampshire Caucaus, it is very likely that he is going to be the nominee.

You'd think a mormon would be a good idea, buuut, unfortunately he is not. Go for Ron Paul, he is the only one who has an idea of bring the US from the brink. ANd has a good plan for changing the US foreign policy.

Saying all that, im british, but alot of us care about who is going to be the next president, as whoever you get, will effect out politics.

But still, I would like to see these videos, being a mormon myself :P

i don't really care about the religion of a president as long as it doesn't interfere with their ability to effectively run the country.
religion gets blown way out of proportion and has little actual significance on a persons ability to govern

These actually popped up shortly after Warren Jeffs received a guilty verdict for sexual assault against children (read about him on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_Jeffs) . While the FLDS is a sect that is separate from the main Mormon church, they are still seen as a part of it. The commercials were/are an attempt to get a better image and to separate themselves from "the crazies".

Edited for clarification and more info.

I agree and I would rather see Romney than Paul any day. Paul's positions are just too inconsistent with each other. I like him on some of the social issues (not the pot stuff)but he scares the heck out of me on international affairs and foreign policy. Romney may not be all that different from Obama in the end but in a race I would vote for him.

Incorrect. Thats like saying baptists and evangilists are of the main christian church. Warren Jeffs also has nothing to do with the LDS church and is not connected to these adds in anyway.

To clarify even more, as I didn't understand what you were trying to say:

The FLDS are not Mormons, The FLDS are a polygamist practicing sect that do lots of wrong-doing.

One of the least trusted religions out there. It makes sense that they would try to change that with a massive PR movement. After all, money fixes most problems in the world.

I personally find the adds vile and repugnant.

    Main Christian Church? What's that?
'Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers clogged with rotting red
And there they lay I damn me eyes
    All lookouts clapped on Paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

The reason you cant let it go is because these people claim to be moral. They claim to get these morals from an absolute authority. They get away with as much as they are allowed to, and only change under stress or in reaction to a threat.
You have to dredge things like this up to show the lack of morality in these organizations.

    Ron Paul

I want Ron Paul to win.

    .... And I'm a Mormon.

PS. @Negrido While I see nothing intrinsically/morally wrong with other cultures polligomy/geriandary (sp?), I would hate to live in a society with it. Any free will associations could be argued to be morally fine. In any case I like monogamous society which we have become.

For a time, part of the Mormon religious doctrine included the teaching that black people were the descendants of Cain, a practice that has since been denounced by the church but still preached by some to this day. I know this from experience as I've come across quite a few devout Mormons in the South that have preached to me that belief, always behind closed doors and away from the wandering ears of the general public.

The ads are a result of a survey taken several years ago, and they run both inside and outside the United States. They aim to dispel many myths about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as well as to direct people to Mormon.org, a website where people can get their questions about the church answered.

Anyone else think it's a little coincidental that all of these Mormon adds are popping up when we've got one in the GOP race?
"Whenever there's a correlation between events, people draw conclusions," notes Lynn Southam, a spokesman for the church. "But I'm a retired lawyer, and as I used to say, 'Wrong assumption, wrong conclusion.'"

According to Southam, the campaign as a whole has three central messages: to set the record straight about those aforementioned misconceptions; to emphasize that the LDS church is indeed Christian (something that should be obvious due to the presence of "Jesus Christ" in its moniker); and to engage members in the broader discussion of the faith.

This is the sad truth of it.

(For the record, my wife is LDS and I am not, so I get some interesting insight into it)

The whole foundation of the religion is that it's the one TRUE church, and that everything they teach is the literal word of God (paraphrasing). They teach that God is perfect, unchanging and all knowing, yet they change their doctrine every time they come under the microscope from a major political movement (polygamy, racism, for example). Their excuse is then "well that was a long time ago, things change."

    Edit:

Aside from all that, they also rope people into joining before telling them all the weird shit they believe in - such as the belief that if you live a good Mormon life you can become the god of your own planet after you die. True story.

    Edit2:

I don't have anything against the people of the church (obviously), I just disagree with a lot of their policies and teachings.
