The 570 performs equal (or close to) to the 6970, or?

Depends on game, both have their ups and downs. But yes they were considered equal.

    I see!

If there's an amazing deal that pops up for the 570 then I might pick it up, the only GPU-intensives game I'm going to play is Battlefield 3 & Metro, I'm fairly happy with high settings & no AA :P

I also think that the 7850 will drop down to ~$200 as nVidias GTS 650 and GT 640 get released/more established.

It might also be due to Trinity. AMD is putting a lot of effort into their APUs to make it a viable solution even for gaming.
thats a garunteed N-O. their gt 640 is complete dog crap garbage. double the price of a 7750, for HALF the performance. so i doubt that their gts 650 will even touch the 7850. shoot 2 gt 640's aren't even close to 1 7850. no fanboy here but they screwed up puting GDDr3 on a 2k12 card when GDDR5 is out.

Never claimed the GTS 650 will be equal to the 7850, just that the 7850 will most likely drop in price once nVidias full line has been released.

Based on this chart, it really all comes down to what games you play and at what resolution.

Tell me, do you play Skyrim at all, for instance? Do you play it at 1920x1080 or 2560x1600? If you answered the first, then it might not be such a good investment, however if you answered the second, then I could see it being worth it. Come back with what games you play and resolution and then we can better help you decide if it is a viable upgrade.

I'd wait a generation, as you really do have a card being able to do well enough.
The upgrade in terms of FPS per money spent isn't really that grand.
