I'm sorry for brining up something that happened so long ago, but i would just like to know why.
Everything was fine and dandy, he said he'd never return, then poof, we're in his castle and we killed him.
Never understood why.

Keal'Thas attacking the Spacegoats, Vashj trying to steal the water of Outland... :I
Don't know why we went after him really. I thought all we had to do was stop the Burning Legion and their Burning Crusade.
illidan ordered kael'thas forces to attack shat for no reason, kael attacked the draenei, vashj tryed to steal all the water from outlands. they became an army of darkness.
so the sha'tar ordered ther allies to ge rid of them.
We went after him because of the crimes he had commited on azeroth, that and he attacked us repeatedly and was a major threat.
Became power hungry and Insane within Outland, He even had Kael attack Shat for no reason. I just wanted him dead because he had my glaives :P anyway hes coming back thankfully in a redeemed form.
Because he is a well known character in the universe and having his face on the box (inside whatever) would sell more and make more monies and we all love monies.
Burning Legion start coming through the Dark Portal.
We enter the Dark Portal and fight Demons and Fel Orcs.
Fel Orcs working with Illidan, Illidan gifts Fel Orcs with Magthera.
Roughly something along those lines, we are thinking cut the head off the snake, the body dies, but Illidan wasn't behind the plans.
WoW only has 10 million subscribers it must be dying! WoW sucks!
I'm sorry no, clearly you didn't see Chuck Norris allowed 10 million to survive his Purge.
First, the Dark Portal reopened which scared the shit out of Azeroth and for a good reason. Kael banded together with Illidan and obviously Kael wanted to fuck us over hard. Illidan also was a huge traitor and just happened to be ruler of Outland, the orcs and newly appointed allies, the dranei's homeworld (ok not the dranei's but they had been there for a while) so we couldn't just let him do what he was doing unchecked.
The story in outland wasn't exactly consistant, we know he became lord of outland, but aside from that he didn't do anything actully bad to us well there.
It was more us adventurers who did things like sneek into hellfire citadel and tempest keep and shadowmoon valley and netherstorm and began attacking his and kael'thas troops. Kael'thas however there seemed to be more reason, only by the end though, when he joined with kil'jaeden...
... honestly, the story was daft, not consistant like fighting deathwing who destroyed so much of azeroth and the lich king who began his scourge war against the living. Illidan just seemed the guy who wanted to be left alone, he didn't even cause outland to explode or corrupt the land, he just came in later.
Because his Fel Orcs in HP responded aggressively towards the Alliance and Horde entering the Dark Portal. The Naaru decided to team up with us as revenge for Illidan sending his Blood Elves against Shatt. By the time we reach Shadowmoon, Illidan's pretty much playing defensively as we storm into BT and kill him cowering atop BT.
The funny thing is had the Illidari been more friendly with the Horde, it would've been more than likely the Horde and Illidari would've allied due to their blood elf connections.
To prove how prepared we were
@Kangodo - for some reason, I read that whole thing imagined to Shaun Hastings voice, from AC:2. Maybe it's cause it felt like a history lesson.
It all suddenly makes sense when you look at it in that light: Kael'thas manipulating events for the Burning Legion. I always knew Illidan was a bit insane, and I knew that Maiev and Akama had reasons for going after him, but I never thought we (Horde/Alliance) had a real direct reason to take him down. Well, other than the fact that we wanted Outland for ourselves...
The real question is... why did we want Outland? What is Outland's strategic importance? We haven't returned since taking care of Illidan, right?
I think the 90-95 expac needs to address this. If not 95-100.

I hope you haven't forgotten my role in this little story. I'm the leading man. You know what they say about the leading man? He never dies.
If you give in to your impulses in this world, the price is that it changes your personality in the real world. The player and character are one and the same.
