@ProudAmerican, I'm with you in spirit (yay capitalism), but it doesn't appear that you've actually done much research before writing your post, especially regarding your suggestion for implementing a flat tax.

EDIT - Back off the caps a bit, too. It's not helping.

lol ok nice rhetoric you're repeating there.

you're taxing the people, not the businesses. the business can afford to keep employees. just because you're taxing the people doesn't mean that now suddenly they cant afford to employ people. that rhetoric makes absolutely zero sense.

and by the way, trickle down economics is a fucking joke.

The reasons the rich get richer and stay that way is they understand compound interest, maximizing ROI, and the power of time. Assuming they're reasonably disciplined, they and their decendants will continue to increase wealth without limit. The US tax code favors people who generate money using these ideas. It's supposed to make it easier to retire. If everyone spent a decent amount of time learning about these things they'd be in a much better position.

This is from another thread long buried somewhere in MMO-Champion. This is not mine, but I agree with all the points.

"Socialism can never take root in America because the poor see themselves not as exploited proletarians but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires."
    - John Steinbeck

In America when people are surveyed they wildly over-estimate their worth (salary after tax + assets - debt and liabilities) and a result they have no solidarity with other middle class and lower class wage earners. They're so delusional they believe they're either wealthy to begin with, or their small business is due to explode in worth over the next decade so they don't want to preemptively fuck themselves by implementing taxes that "punish success".

In fact, when most Americans were surveyed and asked the question, "If you do not see yourself as wealthy or rich now, what do you believe the chances are that you will become rich within the next decade?", over 50% answered with "more than likely".

That's right, Americans actually believe they will become rich when America is ranks dead last in developed countries with a western democracy's ability for a citizens individual or group's status to change in terms of their position in the socioeconomic hierarchy.

It's also no coincidence that there's a correlation between education and anti-Republicanism. Republicans know this, so they're doing all they can to put down the lower- and middle-classes and to erode education. Their uneducated drones control a huge majority of the school boards (different from teacher's union) in the country and they want to make sure that education remains subpar so future generations will be susceptible to their bullshit in the name of Jesus.

    EDIT: Also, THIS:

The economy of Norway ... heavy state-ownership in strategic areas of the economy.

State ownership of the economy is socialism.

Really sucks if they start to limit their vision for an expansion just to get the next one out faster.
BLOOD DPS. Never forget. Still campaigning to get you back, babe.

But if you think of socialism as they did back in the 60's (e.g. Cuba, Venezuela) then Nordic countries aren't pure socialists at all.

You've all been trolled wonderfully. Good discussion, sure, but I haven't met an intelligent person who successfully argued that regressive flat tax was somehow good for anyone.
