"The problem with the 590 is that its very loud and gets very very hot, since its basically 2 cards in one casing. As for it being on par with 7970, thats because you're comparing 2 cards in sli to one card on its own essentially. "

This is very situational, my friend has the Gainward one which is quite loud, I have the Asus one, its quiet as a mouse, I have your vision about AMD cards, loud and like jet engines, its just situational, sometimes they are louder, sometimes they are not.

I'd say wait for price drop for 6950. Because when new series is released price of the old models will drop like atleast 30%. Also like other people say, your current CPU doesnt really fit with a good card like 69xx and 79xx series..

the new series is out (atleast the xx70) and it costs as double or triple as 6950. and with luck that 6950 can digi-evolve to a 6970mon!

I know the 590 has something in sli would that effect my computer seeing as it isn't intel. I know I can use like a 580 for instance because its one card but I though the 590 was two 580 sli.
wow and SLI dont mix. he is still better off with the 7970, and the fact that he would be able to use all 3gb of that RAM not 1.5gb cause its 1.5gbx2 in a SLI 590.

i finally got my ordere through with tigerdirect myself and am waiting for tomorrow for my HIS 7970 ill use my 6950 as a physx card.

Im not really basing that on the fact that its an Nvidia card but mainly from first hand experience and the fact that its 2 chips in one, My friend has a 590 and its louder and runs way hotter than my OC'd 6950.

At this point I think I might just wait till April and see what the ivy bridge brings us and at the very least it should drop the price of the 2600k. Plus that gives me time for me research plus time to try and sell off my old pieces to friends...or find a place that will give me something for it...maybe
    My System
    Ivy Bridge 3570k OC 4.0
    ASRock Z77 Extreme4
    Saphire 290
    Mushkin Enhanced Blackline Frostbyte DDR3 1600 8GB
