So I was bored and browsing about, when out of the corner of my eye this thread caught my attention in the blue tracker: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/3988670769
Now, while I realize that the OP's point is entirely subjective, I cannot get over the amount of hypocritical rage the denizens of the WoW forums displayed upon hearing SWTOR's name. The second the OP mentioned SWTOR, the forums erupted into seven pages of erratic filth spewing, for no reason whatsoever. If the OP decides to go to SWTOR and it flops, so be it. If the OP decides to go to SWTOR and it remains successful, so be it. Why do the forums have to act like the OP just murdered their cat?
It baffles me, it really does. I doubt this is naming and shaming, as the posters names are for all to see, but people like Vorps especially just make it their lifes work to do nothing but bash SWTOR, and for what. Do these individuals feel betrayed because the game wasn't what they expected? Perhaps they feel insulted and teased by the fact the game is "just another MMO"? I truly do not understand it.
Then come posts such as, and I quote; This one just stunned me. The man makes a crack about Lightsabers, but squids-on-a-stick in WoW are perfectly acceptable? Or how about the entire Deathwing raid having weapons consisting nothing of parts of Deathwing. The hypocrisy is just astounding.Dude.
Just..
Go back to being an Ewok and leave the real games to people who don't need flourescent marital aides as weapons.
Another quote;Seriously? More hypocrisy, as the only part of the Deathwing raid that was unique, was battling Deathwing on his back, and that is just one example from that specific raid, I do not even want to go on about how they rehashed the Zul's.RIFT surged and died pretty quickly, so yeah 2-3 months isn't too far off the mark.
EDIT: And yes I'm aware "new" patches are coming out but when "new" means rehashing all old content for solo raiding and 3rd difficulty settings for 5mans... yeah no.
Last quote I feel like posting; So the illusion of choice in WoW, makes it better? It is better because you can fly about and explore places that have literally no purpose at all? Exploration means you should be able to see static locations and generated terrain that serve no purpose so you BELIEVE it is exploration?Do you mean the questing that is done in hallways where you hardly do anything because your companion does it all for you, not to mention the lack of exploration? I played for the free month and quit because when I hit 34 I was bored out of my skull.
To clarify, WoW does have "exploration", but what is there to do? Unless you are still leveling, there is literally no point. Leveling in WoW is as boring as leveling in SWTOR; it is an entirely subjective statement. REAL exploration is something like Everquest, something WoW and SWTOR do not have.
I by no means despise WoW, I believe Activision-Blizzard has some of the best customer service, if not the best, ever seen in an MMO. I also believe they have a quality game and know it, just as much as they know they have a quality business going on. WoW is by no means a bad game, nor is it failing any time soon. Just because it doesn't appeal to you, does not make it bad. However, the same applies to SWTOR, and yet this thread and any other that mentions it seem to thrive in a cesspool of hypocrisy, denial, and an overall smugness that is just too foul for words.
I am not QQing, I am not bitching, I am simply curious to see if anyone agrees that this hypocrisy is nothing short of disgusting. The way I see it, if WoW fails, it fails due to Activision-Blizzard. If SWTOR fails, it fails due to EA pushing BioWare, or BioWare themselves; that is all that should matter, in the end.
So, tl;dr why all the hypocrisy, venom, and vehement hate-mongering on anything that dares try to market itself as an MMO? Why does anyone give a damn about it this much to make seven pages+ about it at LEAST once a week?
A quick addendum; I realize that this could be role reversed for WoW, but I am talking about the experiences witnessed with the WoW community, its inability to accept anything other than Activison-Blizzard products, and why they feel the need to act smug about everything MMO that is released, whether it is in direct opposition with WoW or not.
Please keep the damn game bashing out of the thread, it is a discussion, not an attack on anyone's idea of enjoyment.
