Thread: PvP Training.

    PvP Training.

Somewhat disgruntled poster here at the moment coming off of yet ANOTHER BG loss for today but it got me thinking. Remember back when you actually learnt how to play your class whilst you levelled? New abilites and when to use them etc?

Wouldn't it be nice if, while you were levelling, they also taught you how to work co-operatively in PvP and how to win Battlegrounds instead of just standing at one base letting things freecast and kill you all and then trying to blame the healers (me) who are being nuked by arcane mages and rogues?

It would definitely benefit a lot of people in my opinion, i'm sure its the same horde side, but alliance in my battlegroup are just really bad... like REALLLLLLY bad...

    Thoughts?

you should try tor if only for the fact that your class quests basically force you to use the skills you have learned in the prior levels.

Not really. MMR would only really function for individual play. If you've ever played random team games in Starcraft II, you know exactly what I'm talking about - you can be highly rated and still get drooling idiots for teammates... or enemies, which is often just as bad (unless you're just wanting to roflstomp your way to easy points, anyway.)

Adding an MMR system to random BGs would only add the possibility of you getting stuck with a bunch of drooling neanderthals.

@ OP: The game never really taught you how to play. The closest it ever came was the Benediction questline for Priests and that Hunter weapon questline for Hunters, and those quests assumed you already knew what you were doing.

The game absolutely needs a more comprehensive, interactive tutorial system... and penalties for not knowing how to play.

I don't think it'd be outside of Blizzard's ability or competence to be able to make a series of quests tailored to each class to teach them the basics of their class. Introduce the tanking classes to their tanking abilities and how they function, introduce DPS classes to the concept of rotations or priority systems, teach healers the concept of throughput-versus-efficiency. Right now Blizzard basically hands you the game and tells you to figure it out on your own.

There's plenty of free, readily accessible content out there that will teach you just that, but it's better for everyone if that sort of thing is actually incorporated into the game. Most people that play games are too lazy to actually go out there and do anything that resembles "effort" to learn how to play, probably because there are no consequences for NOT knowing how to play - though penalizing people for not knowing how to play without ever making an effort to teach them how (in-game!) would be pretty skeezy.

I agree with this 100% and we have an entire expansion going to be devoted to it again -_- it's so infuriating. I have not and will not even get my DAILY win, JUST ONE!

What? People have been morons in BGs since they were introduced.

In the form of a quest series, yes. I think with the upcoming PvE scenario concept, this would be very easy to do. Just throw them into a Warsong Gulch with an enemy team full of NPCs. Include a tank to carry the flag, healers which will be trying to heal the tank, and some DPS that will attempt to CC you (and your NPC buddies.) Teach the general concepts of "we must kill the flagcarrier, but to do that we need to stop the healers and avoid being CC'd by their team."

Or just make some friends to queue with :P
I don't think this "training" would do anything except make bad players think they're good because they succeeded at "cap the flag, not the road 101".
