Levelling spec for BT - PT

    Hi,

wanna know if u have any ideas of a build for powertech levelling. I thought of going a hybrid pyro/shieldtech spec, to reduce downtime through tank stance and shield abilities, and raise the DPS by pyrotech tree. Do u have any suggestions? I wanna play solo, do heroics 2, maybe 4s, no flashpoints on the way. Endgame: tanking - but don't wanna tank instances levelling cause of low lvl players. On my server HM are easy to get groups, but during levelling it's bad (Scepter of Ragnos EU).

    Post please,
    thx

I leveled my Vanguard (PT mirror) as full tank spec. I had very little down time and with the healer companion was virtually unstoppable. The down side is that you kill things very slowly, but this is made up for by the lack of down time. I was the first in my guild to reach 50. You can also solo many of the heroic 2's, and duo the heroic 4's. If you wanted to speed up killing you could run a dps companion, but the trade off is some downtime after fights.

PS - currently leveling a Sage healer and Scoundrel dps and so far the Vanguard tank with healer has been the easiest and fastest.

Another thing I would suggest is queuing up for PvP warzones. They offer really great and fast experience gains when coupled with quest gains while levelling. Especially if you are playing with a semi or full tank spec. Keep your guard on a hotkey, and whenever you run into a fight, just throw it up on whoever the other team seems to be focusing on. This will help yield better rewards, and you wont feel as far set back if you decided to PvP at 50 later on, since it will take a little less time to get to rank 60 for the Battlemaster gear than if you were to start at rank 1. BTW, it only takes just over a week and a half or so (both weeks weeklies included in this) of daily quest bags to get a full set of centurion gear with a few pieces of champion to go with it.

What I am currently using, I went pyro > shield in speccing, and the only thing that can really stop me is other players. Also doubles as a PVP spec.

Pyrotech and tank stance don't really mix well at lower levels. I've used Shield/Pyro hybrid for PvP and it's really pointless to go for that until level 48 when you can actually take the key talents from both trees.

A lot of the early talents in Pyrotech only buff up Combustible Gas Cylinder, the pyro "DPS stance", so you'll end up wasting a lot of points in talents that do absolutely nothing for you just to get higher on the tree. Then you also end up having to spend 3 points on a minimal Endurance boost and 2 points on venting heat while stunned, neither of which does anything good for you while leveling... you'll have to spend 10 points on stuff that's useless while leveling just to get to Prototype Partice Accelerator.

If you want to buff shield spec damage, both AP and Pyro trees have a few easily accessible low level talents for it, though AP has much more. But Flame Shield is the key damage talent in the Shield tree, it's fairly high up in the tree and it's definitely not worth branching into other trees if it means skipping Flame Shield.
