    Mesmer in the beta?

hello guys! i have a short question.

is the mesmer in the beta right now? all the sites have so little information about them and i really can´t decide which class i would like to play.

on the one side the elementalist. i can´t stop to bring this class together with the last airbender

on the other side the mesmer who got this persona style

so its elemental bling bling against pink butterfly bling bling and both got a supporter touch.

i would be grateful about every information.

Dont think so. I mean its not like every video posted within the past 4 hours has been Mesmer footage or anything.

Yes, the only thing that's not in the beta are the Asura and Sylvari races. Every profession is there. Here's a pretty good Mesmer pvp video with someone that seems to know what they're doing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8FF3_dYWLU

Plenty of other videos out there like Total Biscuit's wife who made a video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9V6Ck...ure=plpp_video

They look to be great fun, have a learning curve to get over but can definitely see in the hands of a good player them being very deadly.

They seem to have borrowed a bit from the mechanics of the Psionicist from Allods with mantras and shatters.

Yogscast,TotalBiscuit and Curse Network was all playing Mesmers, there's loads of Mesmer footage out there (I suggest the TB video, they go into detail for all the abilities)

Yes. The TB video is the best. Actually explains the abilities.

Never watched the Yogcast before, but they're actually pretty funny and you get to see a good few minutes of questing, combat, exploring and all sorts of stuff you can come across as a player.

Or perhaps took Mesmer from GW1 which came out way before Allods and had skills such as Shatter Enchantment, Shatter Hex, mantras and all these mind wrack stuff

I keep finding Mesmer vids... and not a single person trying out the game as Thief... so yeah, they're definitely in...

As a long term mesmer player, I'll be the first to say that you're wrong. GW2 mesmer mechanics have little to nothing in common with GW1 mesmer mechanics. Skill names did carry over, but they have little to nothing in common with their GW1 counterparts.

Mesmer is indeed far more of a totally new class with "old brand", or a copy from allods. Not entirely sure which one, but it most certainly is not a GW1 mesmer in the same way as, for example, GW2 elementalist is GW1 elementalist.

Actually, far as I can tell, the only difference is that GW1 Mesmers did not have actual illusions as pets or minions. The overall theme of the class is still much the same, if you pay attention to what a Mesmer does in combat with some of the press beta footage. They've always primarily been about buffs and debuffs, controlling the enemy, draining their Energy and such. As opposed to what an elementalist does, who primarily focuses on blowing up his enemies with raw power.

Then again, I didn't play much Mesmer in GW1. I was primarily an elementalist. So, I admit I could be wrong. It just seems to me, from my perspective, that the class's overall theme and feel hasn't changed, merely evolved. Become more distinct from the other casters in the game.

The Mesmer is not content with living in reality—Mesmers prefer to create their own realities. Mesmers are the mental masters of illusion, control, and domination, subverting an enemy's Energy for their own purposes and supporting the entire party in battle with powerful, mind-bending magic.
The Elementalist is still the same as it always was, but that's because the elementalist is a very SIMPLE concept, by comparison.

@DrakeWurrum: Perhaps you're talking about some other mesmer? Because GW1 mesmer was about control, snares, cast speed slowdowns and complex interrupt mechanics.

GW2 mesmer is high mobility stealth + minion master. It has some control and snares, but these are mostly an afterthought, as shown by myriad of debuffing skills that apply RANDOM debuffs. Quite a bitch to control when you don't even know what kind of control you'll be applying.

If I had to describe GW2 mesmer in GW1 terms, it would be a death necromancer gameplay style crossbred with assassin's mobility.

Have to agree with Lucky_ on this one.
Mesmer was my main in GW too, and the GW2 mesmer is totally different, and it seems to be away less complex then the original version.

I was referring to the theme, honestly, not the playstyle. The playstyle has obviously changed, but that is largely because *every* profession in GW2 is going to have lots of control powers like that, so I doubt keeping Mesmers exactly the same would have made them all too fun. I imagine ANet wanted to make Mesmers more distinct.

TBH, one of the things drawing me to Mesmer right now is the simple fact that I can't think of a single MMO that did the whole clone/illusion mechanic in a way that I enjoy. So, I get where you're coming from in that the playstyle changed... but I can't see how you'd be disappointed. This looks very fun, and might be my first alt, even if it won't be my main.

I wouldn't call Mesmer a minion master, the majority of added spell effects are clones which hardly do damage at all and are more meant to confuse your foe. Phantasm do more damage but there isn't enough of them to call mesmer minion masters.

I would consider Mesmers more of... mind fuckers over minion master.

I received a day one ORAS demo code. I am a chosen one.

Mesmer theme in GW1 - Control.
Death necromancer theme in GW1 - Minion master (minion control and minion sacrifices).
Assassin theme in GW1 - Mobility.
Mesmer theme in GW2: Minion master (minion control and minion sacrifices) with Mobility.

Conclusion: GW2 Mesmer theme is that of GW1 death necromancer crossed with GW1 assassin. It has little to nothing in common with GW1 mesmer theme.

P.S. If you enjoy minion master theme, you should have been playing a death necromancer in GW1. It's fairly close to GW2's mesmer, and mainly differs in the fact that you needed to do more to set sacrifices up (but had more control over what and how you sacrifice).
