WHAT THE HELL! THE UK HAS A DAY OF OBSERVATION FOR PANCAKES?!

    1) If I emigrate to the UK, how soon can I observe this wondrous holiday?

    2) If the UK will not grant me citizenship (Possibly due to reasons stemming from "I want to celebrate pancakes" being a poor reason for becoming a citizen), how do I go about getting this holiday in the US?!

We get Mardi Gras instead, and the Brazilians (and a lot of other folks) get Carnival.
'Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers clogged with rotting red
And there they lay I damn me eyes
    All lookouts clapped on Paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

Shrove Tuesday isn't a "holiday" specific to the UK... It's a Christian day... The one before Ash Wednesday

It's a tradition which is linked with Ash Wednesday; the first day of Lent. Very rich foods were consumed before the fasting of lent, and way back when it seems that pancakes were rich and they stuck (thank god!). Spread the good word to the US. LOVE THROUGH PANCAKES!
