    CM v8 a good heatsink?

Hey, i've been wondering about this for a while, but I currently have the v8 by coolermaster. I thought it was doin it's job well up until i started making a point to alt tab during league of legends games, skyrim, battlefield 3, etc. i found it started running my i7-2600k incredibly hot, up near 80-90 C in battlefield, 60-70 in league and skyrim. Is it really that bad? Or is it not running right? What would I do to check something like that? Im halftempted to just get the 212 after all the good things ive been hearing.

Well the v8 and for the matter the v6 and v10 is overpriced, they look good i would say but nothing more. Since you already have it i say you should check if it's seated in place right because if there is a small gap or something else it could be the reason, if yo do this make sure you have some way of cleaning the old thermal past with and have some new thermal past.

90C is the max that I would let it get, but 60-70C on the 2600k is fine, especially if it is overclocked... Is it overclocked?

That being said, Azome is right, you should make sure the HS is seated correctly and making good contact with the CPU.

212+ is a great cooler, I can really recommend it. 62C while playing BF3 and Overclocked at 4.5Ghz.
    Playing since 2007.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention the main bulk of my worry. Its not overclocked. But that is a good point about making sure its installed right. A second related question is, is there a way to check if its running fast enough or properly through a third party program like coretemp or something?

That is waaaay too hot for a stock-clock chip with that hsf

Edit: for comparison, my overclocked 2500k with 212+ hits 65c in IBT/P95 stress tests with a 21c-24c ambient. at stock speeds I think it was closer to 50-55 under load.

At stock your heatsink is letting it get that hot? Surely you forgot to apply TIM or applied it wrong?

Those are some horrible temperatures for 3.4GHz on a 2600K.... a stock cooler would probably perform better. x_x
