2011 was not a very good movie for movies, especially if compared with 2010 (Inception, cough). What I really want is a fair ceremony and not corrupt idiots stealing yet another oscar from the best movie composer ever, Hans Zimmer. So I just want Hans Zimmer to win an oscar if he's nominated.

I must say i dont know who i should choose because 2011 just like 2010 where very bad when it came too movies compared too 2008 or 2009 i think i might skip watching it this year and just go for next year because it will have a lot of epic movies coming out (The Avegers, The Hobbit. for me).

I generally hope that we'll end up with another situation (like for the Lord of the Rings) where a longstanding series of films that finished gets the nod (that is to say Harry Potter) I can't really think of any other film that was worth seeing

To say that Harry Potter was the only one worth seeing is a huge insult to movies like Tree of Life, Drive, Kid with a Bike, The Artist, We need to talk about Kevin, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Melancholia, Once Upon a Time in Anatolia, 50/50, A Separation, The Descendants, and Hugo. 2011 sucked for American movies; other countries still brought out quality stuff, they should not be ignored.

I believe The Artist will probably pick up a bunch of awards. Including best picture. I'd like to see Win Win take home something. I loved that movie. I'd like to see Meryl Streep win for the Iron Lady too.

I'll make my picks when the nominations are announced. I'll have to catch up on some movies probably.

All I want is for Rooney Mara to win "best actress" and it will be perfect.

I have seen many of the good or the critical acclaimed films, and I have to say, Joseph Gordon-Levitt delivered this year’s most convincing acting job for 50/50.
Nick Nolte should win the Best Supporting Actor award for Warrior.
Tilda Swinton for We Need To Talk About Kevin.
I’m not sure about Supporting Actress yet.

This is the Oscars, not the MTV movie awards. The only thing it'll be nominated for is its FX. The 3 types of movies that always seem to win are movies with british accents, films about filmmaking, and the holocaust.

Best Picture: 75% on The Artist (since it's so far sweeped every major film awards) and 25% on the Descendant. Statistically, one of those two will win.
    Best Actor: Jean Dujardin.
Best Actress: Meryl Streep (Yes she gets nominated too much, but she has not won a lot and if you think about it, she has the most losts, but she equally deserves it as much as any other without looking at her past)
Best Director: Tough call on Alexander Payne (Descendant) or Michael (Artist).

I would love for The Artist to pick up best picture. I haven't seen a movie that moved me that much in so long.

That said... the Oscars should be worth watching this year for Billy Crystal alone.

Looks like it's been an exceptionally bad year. I can't remember seeing this much oscar bait in recent years.

Yeah, there are a quite a few oscar bait movies this year; The Descendents, The Artist, and Moneyball to name a few, but that doesn't necessarily make them bad movies. The Artist, for example, is IMO one of the best movies to be released in the last 10 years.

The Artist will probably sweep wherever it can. I haven't seen it yet, but that's pretty much the buzz (and probably the purpose of making the movie). Besides that, not much else that's too impressive. It was a weak year for movies in general, nothing really stands out for me except for a few films. Attack the Block was probably one of my favourites, but that would never win anything.

The Artist is when some smug asshole figured he could take advantage of a few 80 year old film snobs by making a silent movie made solely for the sake of being a cinematic hipster. Unless you are one of the 80 year old film snobs in charge of the oscars, then you have no reason to enjoy that movie.
