    Trading in Guild Wars 2

When I watched one the Yogscast videos I noticed that you couldn't trade in the game but instead send mail. Will there be some kind of trading system so that you don't get scammed when trading?

If you want to make a meaningful transaction with a player, you need to exchange mail (probably not the best choice with a stranger you don't trust) or sell it at the market place (aka auction house)

No, at this time there is no plans to implement a trading system.
The most important thing to realize is, no matter what you experience you are never alone; no matter what you are struggling through, there is always someone who is more unfortunate.

There may be a trading system implemented before launch but if not, mail or marketplace are the only way to go atm.

I doubt it, they're attempting to make this port to consoles and having no trade system will make it even easier to port for console UI's.

They have said multiple times that the console port is just a side-project and they will never hinder the PC version because of console game play considerations.

Since the Market Place (Auction House) works in many different ways compared to other MMOs, a trade system with a window and all won't be needed.

    We'll see about that.

The world works with money, not promises.

Porting to console itself will cause problems in the long run.

Consoles are a side project as said before. Pretty sure ANet knows who to please first and that will always be the PC crowd. Either way, a trade system would be nice even if it isn't there at launch.

Guild Wars 2 already looks like a console game, so its hardly a side project in my opinion.

I heard this from many games and in the end the game was a port from console to PC. I can give you some recent examples: Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3.

Trading is unnecessary. Mail is instant so you can give items easily and from anywhere. Auction House can handle everything else.

And best of all, there won't be loads of WTB this and WTS that chatter in cities. As least it should be lessened.

    I think its pretty smart.

Well, you won't have many "WTB" spam taking up your chat windows.
If you want to buy something, you go to the "AH". If you want to sell something, you put it up on the "AH". No mess, 1 market place and nothing more.
It makes sense from a immersion point of view as well. If people wanted to buy things back in the day they went to the market, they didn't stand in the middle of the street screaming "WANT TO BUY.."
It instantly creates a meeting point in cities. Most people will gather around the market area in the city which will create a better social feeling.

Yeah trading items with a "stranger" may be a bit risky since there would only be CoD and not Specific IoD, so the only way you could protect yourself from a theift in mail trading items is for person A to CoD with the item(s) they are trading for about the items worth, and then for person B to CoD the exchange item with the same CoD they just got charged thus making a net change of money 0 while slightly protecting the first mailer from theft.
