What happens when everything you have based your life dependence on has failed? You know how many people can't function without their smartphone, GPS, computer, or any other technological marvel we've created? Don't get me wrong, I love all those things, but just because they make our lives better doesn't mean they are a necessity, nor does it mean the people who don't want to use them on the same level as people who are not sane.

You'll understand when you're in the military and don't have a GPS to find your way around, but you've spent your whole life relying on it to find where you are.

You know why we make them? Because we need them. They WOULD NOT be made without necessity. "Necessity is the mother of invention". Technology is evolving, it's becoming part of our lives. Humans cannot function without this technology. The US wouldn't be the country it is without technology. You fail to realize how much technology is needed.

I'm pretty sure GPS was actually developed by the military, right? Orienteering is a useful skill to have, but I think soldiers have access to GPS usually.

On the earlier post about raiding in SW and not being prepared.

Just brought in a guy since we where short one to Hardmode EV. Has no gear, stims, or experience and we are doing just fine.

That's another reason I had to quit ToR. Our server was so abysmally low on Republics that raiding wasn't possible. Hell, you could spend 2 hours trying to find a heroic instance group that would just wipe to the first boss continuously.

We have a full guild group of 9-10 people for ops, it's just two of our core couldn't make it.

Necessity and wants are not the same thing. Do you NEED email? Do you NEED a smartphone? Do you NEED a gps? If we NEED them, we would literally die without them. Seriously, what will happen when the thing you NEED is dead or breaks? Those who don't need them know how to function and what to do.

I absolutely acknowledge technology's place in our lives. I somehow lived without the Internet, a smartphone, a GPS, email, etc. I wonder how I did that.

I think we've deviated from those who hate electronics, to simple technologies that have been created, even though they took older ideas and expanded them. (Ie basic bar a cloth tourniquets vs Combat Application Tourniquet)

We do, but they have been known to fail a ton. Something about "lowest bidder" and such. The point is my survival is not in jeopardy because a piece of plastic with some electronic crap in there didn't work. Something I absolutely needed I would not be able to survive without, such as being shot in the chest without my armor.
