Which Game should I buy: MW3, SC2, Skyrim

    Okay,

I just came home from seeing Project X and logged on to my main aka immediately bored as hell. After reading Trade for 5 minutes I decided it's time to buy a new game - but I have no clue which one.

I enjoy all types of video games but my favorite all time favorites are Baldurs Gate 2, Counter Strike, System Shock 2, The Witcher and Warcraft 3. I love MMOs(played UO, LA2, Aion, SWToR). After 30 minutes browsing Game Trailers I have narrowed it down to the following games:

    MW3 - last time I played a CoD was MW1.
SC2 - Multiplayer may be too hardcore for me. Difficulty Level: Asian Q_Q
Skyrim - Love these 300+ hour RPG but no Multiplayer, hated ES 3&4.

Basically, I'm looking for a game I can log on every once in a while to take a WoW break.

    HALP plx?

If you are looking for a serious time sink, you should get SC2. It requires a lot more playtime to sharpen up on skills and even a 1 week break could lead to you completely sucking for a few games once you start playing again. If you just want to get it for the single player, don't bother. Skyrim is a great game and one of my all time favorites, and if you are just looking for a casual game that will still take many many hours to beat you should definitely get it, and a multiplayer mod is in the works from what I can understand. As for MW3, don't even consider it. As you said, MW1 was the last COD game you played and that was also the last decent game. MW3 is virtually the same game with different story and some different maps.

If you hated Morrowind and Oblivion then I would really not recommend Skyrim. As a fan of the series I didn't enjoy Skyrim all that much. It was a great time sink, but I couldn't help but feel it just didn't measure up.

Haven't liked Call of Duty in a while now, so can't say much there.

I voted SC2 for you, because even though I don't play RTS games all that often, it should be a good investment. Get started with practicing that multiplayer eh!

SC2, just try not to take the multiplayer too serious. MW3 if you want more 'popcorn'-style, visceral entertainment. If you didn't like ES3 or 4, there's nothing for you in ES5.

    Thanks for the reply,
Yeah Skyrim looks pretty effing awesome but most of my friends complained that nothing you do changes the world - and I really hated ES 3&4.

What's the deal with all those wanna be DOTAs? Anything worth playing?

Well If you hated Oblivion then don't even touch Skyrim because It's really the exact same game(I guess you could say that all the ES titles are the same thing).

Now SC2 for me Is that I like to watch It, but I hate to play It. I'm awful In RTS games so I get mad all the time while playing them. If you ladder In SC2, prepare to rage all the time If you keep losing because you won't get anywhere at all.

MW3 Is the same exact game as MW2, so there's really no point at all In buying It other than more people play It than MW3, black ops, ect.

MW3 is not exactly the same game as MW2. If your gona give him advice on the game dont give blatantly wrong advice.

Different Genres so can't really be compared fairly.

  9. #9
    They're totally different Genres....

Skyrim is basically MMO style single player, it's rather enjoyable if you have a decent PC but can be buggy depending on luck.

SC2 is really the only worthwhile RTS on the market, so if that's your thing you'd enjoy it. So long as you're not expecting the retarded hero system from WC3 you'd enjoy SC2.

MW3 is seems like more of the same to me, but I'm not an FPS person.
    It's called Bloodlust not Heroism.
I used to be a good player once. Now I'm a casual

Definitely Skyrim.. If you are itching for MW3, get BF3 instead.

MW3: If you have any CoD since 4, don't bother with buying MW3. It's the same multiplayer, all the campaigns are 4 hours length and textures are recycled from all the games since 4. There's no reason to support developers who can't be bothered to spend more than a month working on a $60 annual release.
Skyrim: Skyrim is like Minecraft in the sense that it's what you make it because it's so sandboxy, great time sink for sure though. It's not a game you can trust critics or other people as it doesn't cater to everyones' likes and you just need to try it for yourself. If you have a friend with the game, try it first imo.
SC2: Starcraft 2's campaign is fairly short but pretty fun and can be very challenging to get all objectives. It's hard to recommend this game because you have to practice a ton to be good to make the multiplayer fun. Once you get good though it's amazingly fun and competitive.

I recently started playing League of Legends recently, it's pretty damn fun, and it has the freemium model so you've nothing to lose with trying it. People will try to tell you that HoN is better but it's all personal preference. In my opinion, LoL has cooler character design and lore but I'd recommend HoN if you want a more traditional DotA feel. Although most people say that HoN will die when DotA2 comes out because it's so similar, but I can't say anything on that matter as I only played HoN back in beta and LoL just brought me in better and I love it. :]

SC2 - the campaign is awesome, I ended up playing through it a couple different times (difficulties, achieves, alternate storylines/maps, etc.)

I never really got into the super competitive online ladder stuff, but if you do it should provide endless entertainment. I almost enjoy watching youtube videos of the pros playing more than I do actually playing those types of games - cause I usually just end up losing super fast. But the custom games is what keeps me logging in - so many different types of games, it's just awesome. The tower defense ones are probably my favorite, but there's all types.

I'd say Kingdoms of Amalur .. it almost plays like a single-player WoW with fun visceral combat in a kinda "god of war" style.

Skyrim's a great timesink, as others have said .. I love the game, but I've been a ES fan for a while.

Not a fan of multiplayer FPS or RTS, so can't comment on MW3/SC2.

    Skyrim

Also, BF3 is loads better than MW3

    Sc2 ofcourse

I voted Skyrim because it's probably the best "Log into every now and then when you're not playing WoW"....

However based off some of the RPG choices you made on that list .. I would STRONGLY recommend the Mass Effect Series (If you haven't already)

EDIT: Also MW3 is good but ONLY if you've played the first 2 ... Whilst I still think that MW1 > Any other COD or any other shooter in the genre ... I still loved MW3 mainly because it gave closure on the story and some of the moments were pretty heart-wrenching ... However Gameplay-Wise, meh.

Thumbs up to the guy who said Kingdoms of Amalur. I got both KoA and Skyrim. Personally I loved the feel of KoA more than Skyrim. And if you don't like TES series, but still want a RPG game, KoA would be best. If you are more into shooters, I say get the Mass Effect series, I haven't personally played a lot of it, but heard many good things about it.

SC2 is a totaly waste of money if you don't play multiplayer, and since you want a break from WoW, I don't think having your RealID friends popping in to say Hi when you are in SC2 would be good.

Overall, I vote for KoA:Reckoning and then Mass Effect if you are looking for RPGs but hate the feel of TES games.
