Thread: EDID question.

    EDID question.

I've been having trouble with my graphics card for a while. When playing games the computer screen will go black, then the audio will hang a bit, then the computer will restart.

For a while now I've been assuming this was just my graphics card dieing, but I've never ran into any graphical errors or anything like that, just the computer going black and restarting.

    The card doesn't overheat.

Recently I heard about monitor EDIDs causing problems with some graphics cards, and I was wondering how could I tell if this was a monitor problem, besides running the PC on a different monitor for a while which is something I'd be unable to do at the moment.

Also your thoughts on whether or not this could be the problem I'm having.

Not sure how you would test for that mate the only thing i would try and do is take it to a friends house who has a pc and test it there.I have never heard of EDIDs.I find it strange how a monitor can cause a PC to crash/restart.If your pc is going black and restarting it is possible it could be a memory problem have you checked that?
