Will eventually end up going with a more silence-oriented case + full noctua fans, but this will do for now

Welcome! (pff, should have read this before I said you had a nice "base-platform" for future years)
But yeah, keeping things silent and cool is the dream, and many of the more silence optimised case doesn't really sacrifice any airflow from a "regular case". A high airflow one, sure - but you could hardly expect otherwise.
I think moving away from mechanical storage will be the biggest upgrade for me. I will also transition into watercooling, both because of it being better and because I don't trust my CPU. :P
I'm slowly moving to more SSDs/less HDDs myself.
The Fractal Define R4 has been great for quietness, even though in a basement, the sump pump, furnace, and all the other noise makers pretty much negate the need, but hey, it looks nice at least!
In time we'll all be able to just go RAMDisk and not need anything else, amirite?
Well I still like to record at 60fps myself in case I want to apply some slow motions. 30 fps slowed down starts to look like a slide show.
Fair point. I used to not want to record in 60 fps because of the added space it consumed and the i5 wasn't too happy with that. However now things are a little different. :P
Yeah, with such widespread support for the h.264 encoders on CPUs and graphics cards, the idea that recording anything would have an input on your gaming experience seems like a lifetime ago.
Of course, my Sony Vegas is a dick and refuses to import files recorded with the AMD VCE or via QuickSync, but at least they are small enough to only need 5 hours to upload on my totally shitty internet.
So I'm back folks, what did I miss?
More on/off topic, thinking of doing a new build myself. Those new Intel cpu's are looking pretty damn good right about now, not sure about gpu though.. Do I go Nvidia or wait and see if AMD offers any sort of competition in the gpu realm.. Decisions..

Those Intel CPUs look like they do nothing really new, however! Things need to shake up, and even more, have a need to shake up.
I'm looking forward to AMD Zen, because it might actually rattle things around.
GPU-wise, do you have complaints? Else, I'd look to change case..
Yeah Haswell hasn't particularly impressed me, lets see if Broadwell or Skylake gives enough of a reason to finally move on from i5 2500K :P
