    Kickstarting a Revolution

First, Tim Schafer with a new point-and-click adventure game...

Now, Brian Fargo with a long awaited sequel to Wasteland...

Is anyone else absolutely blown away by the emergence of fans? At first, I thought this was maybe a one-time ordeal, but this is something much more real. I'm actually very excited at the possibility of older IPs that may be rebooted.

Heh, I'd rather we just get another Fallout game made by the original team. Wasteland won't have all the cool shit the Fallout IP has, even if it inspired Fallout in the first place

Hey now, Wasteland isn't bad by any means. It hasn't aged very well, but any person with a real appreciation for gaming can get over that.

I guarantee it'll be more like Fallout 1, 2, or even Tactics. Hell, you can even find an alpha build of the original Fallout 3 somewhere.

My god, that makes me so damn happy.

I hope more niche games come out of stuff like this. It's a fantastic way to get around the usual developer-publisher vice grip, to not be forced to dump a bunch of money just to make a game (which leads to developers being allowed to take more chances), and in general to give back to really supportive fans. I'm not gonna call it a movement yet, but here's hoping.

It's a dangerous trend, getting fans to pay for games before production even starts.

Someone is going to get burned if this continues.

I wish that a lot of these smaller creators wound band together and form one single entity so they have better financial support to work on their own personal projects while at the same time able to reach a larger audience with the ability to release games beyond a download that most people will ignore while at the same time also having the support of fans for their projects. This could also expand outward to smaller indy devs and companies. If such a company existed I would throw almost as much money at them as I spend weekly on old games(which is a lot).

This, it's why I passed on Tim Shafers project. Even if I know he is a good developer, I just can't lay money down on the unknown.
