As far as I know, everyone born from an airbender was an airbender themselves (Aang is an exception with Katara).

It only applied when both parents were airbenders. As the most spiritually and elementally attuned culture, they had a near 100% turnover in benders, with no known cases of non-benders between Air Nomad parents. But aside from Aang and Katara, there were no known cases of and airbender having a child with anyone other than another airbender.

In Aang & Katara's case though, you're dealing with a mixture of Air Nomads and Southern Water Tribe; which is bound to have irregularities. For one, the purity of the airbending births is going to drop by at least 50%, but then you've also got the Southern Water Tribe, which doesn't exactly have a 1:1 ratio like airbenders when it comes to water benders. Hence the three children of Aang and Katara, Kya (waterbender), Bumi (non-bender), and Tenzin (Airbender).

Like the original Avatar, it's written by Americans and animated by Koreans. So no, not technically an anime.

Not really because its like taking the concept of anime but made by Americans so it would be more of a mix kinda

It's not. It's just been labeled that for convenience because there really aren't all that many cartoons OTHER than Avatar that people are interested in, so it's easy enough to categorize this with other Anime since it all falls under 2D animation.
I'm aware the word 'anime' has become associated with 'animation originating from Japan' and to a Japanese person pretty much ALL animation falls under 'anime'....but in recent times we've seen many American productions that heavily use a Japanese style/influence to the point where you can no longer tell where it originates from lol.

In short: nobody really makes a big deal out of it any more, anyone can call it whatever they like (anime or cartoon) and everyone else should be fine with it
