Cinemas - What makes you go there?

I just thought of something about Cinemas:

Why do you go there? The Picture Quality isnt very good. They dont show High definition video.. I'm not counting IMAX thats placed around the world.

Sure the sound is pretty awesome but thats it. It's been a while since i last went to the cinema but from what i remember its like watching a pretty good TS, okay that might be exaggerating a bit but still.

Like game developers, they have to attract us by making cool Cinematics, but cinemas dont do anything and basicly never improve on anything.

Or is this just the cinema in my city?

EDIT: Maybe they show in HD, but the screen is too big or the projectors are bad?

    Nothing.

I haven't been to a cinema in years. Why bother when a few weeks later you can buy the blu-ray and avoid the crowds and high prices.

Some movies get a more epic feeling when you watch it at the cinema then at home at my small 24' screen or the 42' tv like pirates of the carribean or james camerons avatar was quite epic watching it in cinema.
I usaly dont go tought to damn expensive and the fact that they are almost stopped showing non 3D movies anymore or have them on stupid times makes it worse (3d blind ftl)

As i said some movies just look and feel more epic watching it at a cinema then at home.

Don't agree about quality. Guess that depends on how modern your theatre is though. I only go to watch movies I eagerly want to see it on release or when I'm bored in town.

Like said above, friends. Going to the cinema together is more fun than watching the movie at home (in my opinion at least)

Haven't been to a movie theater since I was in High School and do not ever plan to go back to another one.

I'd have to drive a good hour or so to go to a movie theater, they closed the only one in my town down. Not that it matters any, I haven't seen a movie in one since Star Wars III came out ages upon ages ago. I only see it as a waste of money anymore.

Only things that caused me to go to cinemas, was because it´s kinda fucking epic with awesome fantasy & adventure movies like Pirates of carribean, Harry Potter. And sometimes because I had to keep company, but I don´t go to cinemas anymore.

I hate people that talk at the cinema. I usually go to the cinema when a big blockbuster is in - no disturbing.
(PS - if you are using your phone during the movie you will walk out covered in popcorn...)

Because cinemas contribute to a nice evening out with friends. And since when are crowds a bad thing?
Some people here seem really anti-social.

Nothing......it's getting too expensive to go to them anymore and lately there hasn't been a whole lot worth going to see on a big screen. Plus 3D is just a waste of time and money.

I don't go to them, prices are too high and I heave to deal with lots of people.

I don't go because I have one in my basement. I spent a lot of time, money , and effort putting the home theater experience in my basement so I wouldn't have to go out to a theater. I have a HD Projector and a really nice 6.1 DTS surround speaker setup.

    Popcorn primarily.

Also the fact that if I try to watch anything at home I get distracted with forums and skype...

I love going to the cinema, the Odean closest to me can be a little expensive but I think it's worth it.

Both the visual and audio quality is amazing and is probably the best way to view a movie, I also like to make a day of it with friends also.
