There is no ''best'' or ''better'' hero. Each has his ups and downs.
But yes, Akali isthe better of the 2 Either way, neither is really "melee".
ya neither i would consider melee or fighters but of the two akali is better
okay, 1:
both are (or well, should be) AP characters.
Akali excels at single target burst (she has close no to aoe capacity) and high mobility (shadow dance) and has a VERY potent defense mechanism in twilight shroud.
Katarina on the other hand has limited mobility (shunpo) but has a lot of aoe in terms of bouncing blade and death lotus. Katarina lacks any kind of defensive mechanism tho other than being able to shunpo to friendly targets.
neither are "run up and auto attack" kind of melee characters and both are classified as assassins, i.e high burst damage limited sustained damage.
all in all what kind of melee character do you want?
one that can burst? one that is tanky but has mediocre damage?
a trick pony?
Well, I don't want a tank xD
High damage, I tried Morgana but I'm not so good with it
I like Katarina but It's hard to stay alive if they target me

You want a hard hitting melee?
- Tryndamere (can't die while his ultimate is active (literally), dies high crits. His gapcloser can go trough walls. He can heal himself and slow)
- Gankplank (Grants a fancy buff for your teammates. His Q is a 'click to use' skill and does high damage lategame. His ultimate damages and slows an area on the map)
- Lee sin ( a little bit tricky to play. He has 8 skills. He is very deppendant on your aim with skillshots and positioning)
- Master Yi (I simply call him "Master Rightclick". With his ult, he gotta go fast, does high damage and can heal himself a bit)
- Udyr (fairly hard to master. All his 4 skills give active and passive bonuses)
- Shyvana (Does pretty high single/cleave damage, runs fast with her Q and can transform into a dragon. Dude, a dragon)
- Olaf (His beard increases his attack speed for every % of life he is missing. His throwing axe slows the enemy. With his ultimate, he is immune to disables. He can do true damage, which is awesome against tanks)
- Talon (Tricky and funny to play. Pretty high burst in midgame, a silence-gapcloser, slows and an ultimate that turns you invisible)
- Xin Zhao (nothing much to say. High damage, fancy gapcloser, AE-ult with resistance increase)
You can also eventually try Garen, Trundle, Riven, Renekton. Their damage are highly dependant on what items you buy.
If you're now to LoL, I suggest you to go for Yi, Trydamere, Olaf or Xin.
Well, you won't survive long as Katarina or Akali if you play them in the thick of battle. Both are assassins meant to skirt the edge of battle and jump in at the most opportune time.
The problem is you are asking for a "good melee champion", but what you really should ask for is a "good bruiser/fighter". The error is in the language asking this question.
Great bruisers:
Wukong
Riven
Shyvana
Irelia
Easy to learn Bruisers:
Garen
Renekton
Gangplank
Tryndamere

Sorry but I play WoW so it's hard to choose the right words xD
Anyway I liked the assassins, I mean, I stay hidden till a good moment then (with Katarina) shunpo + ultimate and someone dies...
I also tried Morgana, but there are lots of character so I can't really choose since I'm new (just lv10).
Let's say, which assassins would you suggest?
Anyway, thanks for your replies!!
Yar, I figured. Tanks are not "tanks" in the WOW sense. And neither are Mages, um... "mages" in that sense either. Etc.
Fighter/Bruiser: A champion meant to be in the thick of a fight or able to take a few hits before going down. They typically have a little less damage &/or range than Carry Champions or "Mages". And sometimes a little less Control &/or survival than an actual "tank".
That is what assassins are suppose to do. :PAnyway I liked the assassins, I mean, I stay hidden till a good moment then (with Katarina) shunpo + ultimate and someone dies...
Morgana is a mage, but also a support and pinch tank. She sets up kills most often. Having a lot of control and sustain at her disposal.I also tried Morgana, but there are lots of character so I can't really choose since I'm new (just lv10).
Not Akali if you are not L30. Akali needs a special set of runes and masteries to perform optimally. Without them Akali is frightfully fragile and you are putting in way more effort than the results you would get out of Akali otherwise. To some degree this is true of Jax as well. I would stay away from both Akali and Jax if you don't have the runes/masteries to back them up- which you won't till L30.Let's say, which assassins would you suggest?
Assassins can be quite tough to play. But if you are set on it, I recommend Talon, Kassadin and Shaco and Ahri (she's ranged, but a highly mobile assassin). Lee Sin, Poppy, Fiora and Fizz can also fill that role and are a little tougher to kill than others mentioned. Just keep in mind degree of difficulty can be wide among these champs. Yet they all are about opportunity.
A champion such as Kassadin can scare the living hell out of the entire team if played well.

Don´t play Akali, after the nerfs she is just so frustrating to play.
She is a noob stomper but she gets crushed whenever people know how to counter her.
Wouldn't really call Poppy an assassin. Can see why you mentioned her as such, but most assassins thrive in early game and that's really where Poppy is pretty lack-lustre.
both are shit tbh
N
Naw, Poppy turns on the ulti and just powerhouses through the team taking 1/2 with her before sprinting the hell out again. Once ulti is on CD she can still play catch or she could be built tanky. Not really an assassin imo. Kassadin/Talon/LeBlanc/Akali/Shaco/(Eve) are " my" assassins, appear, do massive damage by blowing cooldowns, gtfo. These are champions that you want to turn around and kill if they just blew all their cooldowns and you are still alive enough/
Kassadin or Talon?
I don't like so much Shaco, well, it is powerful but sometimes it could be the best to kill
Try Master Yi. If you play him, your team automatically wins unless the other team has a more fed one that can kill you before you kill him.
Don't like so much Yi; anyway, I tried Kassadin but it's hard to play! I mean, it's not a problem if I have to play it often, but it's that it doesn't have that burst that I have with Katarina... or, well, think I'll buy Talon because it has a gameplay like Katarina xD
Though I'm a bit confused ^^''' Too much characters
If you haven't already, you should try Renekton.
Good mobility, controled stun, high damage and sustain.
The only "downside" is that its all Physical damage (except the ultimate aura damage) so if you havent got ArP Marks it might get hard versus high armored targets.
EDIT-- Oh, and doesn't use mana, so it benefits a lot from CdR items.
Money talks, bullshit walks..
