I was just curious as to whether or not people actually pay real currency for the heroic DW mount?

Yeah of course, There's a lot of people that do as an alternate payment other then gold. Is it Illegal? Why yes it is however the chances of them finding out are pretty much zero to none and such. Unless you got Blizzard listening in on your vent etc and such haha
