[Books] So what book/book series to read?

First of all I'd like to say that I could not find any post on the topic, so please if there is one, direct me to it

But well I am a 16 year old guy, and I love reading, I am no nerd I just generally like it. So I was wondering if someone on here could recommend some book series or maybe just single books not belonging to a series? I have of course read all the most poular things, like: Harry Potter, The Golden Compass, almost finished with The Hunger Games, starting with Eragon soon and the list goes on and on. But well some advice/recommendations would be just awesome.

I'll also be glad to give advice on whatsoever with books if anyone wants it

    Thanks in advantage.

    - Zezerax

Steven King has alot of good stuff. I read a bunch of michael crichton and john grisham stuff too. Orson scott card's ender series and alvin maker are also good reads. You will prob have to ask someone else if you looking for something more fantasy related.

A Song of Ice and Fire series. It's what the show Game of Thrones is based on. It's absolutely incredible.

So much this. It's really good stuff.

It sounds like it might be just up your street too; it's an incredibly savage and dynamic dark fantasy series.

I'd suggest most of the books written by Tolkien, especially LotR and the hobbit and personally I love most of what David Eddings have written so I'd say that you should look at a few of his series as well, especially The Elenium-triology followed by the Tamuli-triology, both of them which is just amazing.

Keep in mind that I enjoy readying fantasy so if you're looking for any other genre you're better off asking someone else for advices.

Terry Goodkind's "Sword of Truth" series.

Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files series is really good. Wizard-for-hire set in modern day Chicago. It starts off good, has a dip in quality (well, not quality: it just has parts where you're going 'ffs, GET ON WITH IT'), then gets REALLY good.

A nice book from Douglas Adams just make sure to buy the Ultimate version. ( for us Sci-Fi nerds )

But there are a lot of greats...

    The great gatsby

    Lord of flies

    The hobbit as mentioned earlier

one of my favorites, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

    A separate peace

    Any book by John Steinbeck

    A river runs through it

But if you are looking for a super fast read, and I recommend this book every time to younger readers...

A thief of always from Clive Barker, 225ish pages if i remember, super fast read, take ya about 3 hrs but I guarantee you will like it.

    Anyhoo

Erm, the Sword of Truth series, Harry Potter as mentioned, Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality I would personally really recommend. I personally like the Warhammer series Gotrek and Faelix as well.
What do you think you know and how do you think you know it?

Are you conscious in the sense of being aware of your own awareness?

I have to second this. Easily one of my favorite series, and definitely a must read if you like the genre.

The only really series I read that I can recommend to someone is "Lord of the Rings". But I guess you knew that these books awesome before you made this post!

Other than that: Try reading some "lightweight" Hemingway like "The Old Man And The Sea". I also found "Choke" by Chuck Palahniuk to be quite nice. If you're more into comics/graphic novels try reading "Maus" by Art Spiegelman!

Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones... Then "The Night Circus" I heard is really good.
Wicked - the series. it's amazing.
The Witch and Wizard series by James Patterson is a good read.
Maximum Ride by James Patterson is a good read.

I really want some more books like Game of Thrones series (they're changing the name, it's official, don't bother with ASoIaF anymore, it's too damned long!!!!)
Some really raunchy fantasy series, super gritty and full of war and characters you can love! Anyone know any that are like that?
And I don't mean LotR, it was good, but Game of Thrones was just BETTER. Yea, I said it. We can box if you want. I'll win.

With the risk of turning this thread redundant , i can't recommend A song of Ice and Fire enough .It has completely changed the epic fantasy genre most critics agree.I have never read a book where i had to jump from the sofa gasping and in awe , and had to stop reading a few days so i can calm down.

A friend of mine less of a reader described it in the most eloquent way without even knowing : "I don't understand how words can give you such a thrill" .

Stephen Kings The Dark Tower Series and George R. R. Martins A Song of Ice and Fire. Those 2 series are must reads.
