    [Movie] Iron Sky

For a low-budget movie from Finland, this actually looks pretty awesome.

I for one am looking forward to seeing as I have a taste for such movies.

I think I've always had a hang-up with Nazis being bad guys in cult movies. One the one hand, it pokes fun at them, but on the other it trivializes how terrible their history was.

Im looking forward to this movie although imo it could have been much better if it was just some alien race instead of nazis but looks interesting nonetheless. Would also make for a cool video game plot.

You do realise the entire movie is steeped in ironic mockery?

It's taking the piss out of the Hollywood B-movies from the 60s. Also, turning it into a game? Really?

None-the-less, I hope it does get released in the majority of the cinemas; so far Cineworld isn't showing anything in their 'Coming Soon' section, despite the fact that the film is supposed to be released in the UK on the 20th. Oh well, I'll just have to wait and see I suppose.

It would just be another boring, low budget sci-fi movie with aliens then. It also couldn't be the "Mother F-ing Space Nazis" movie either.

With Iron Sky still "TBD" on this side of the pond, I caved and went to one of those naughty places for it. Holy Hindenburg, Himmler, is it a good movie. I was a bit concerned about the whole rose tinting National Socialism myself, but they have the idealist get a revelation around the middle. They even spoof the Hitler rant but its not from who you would expect it from. I so want to see this on the big screen. Hopefully it will start making the rounds, stateside, soon.

By the by, Julia Dietze is so hot.

    First four minutes...

    Sir Robin, the Not-Quite-So-Brave-As-Sir-Lancelot.
Who had nearly fought the Dragon of Angnor.
Who had almost stood up to the vicious Chicken of Bristol.
And who had personally wet himself, at the Battle of Badon Hill.

    This movie was so fun.

I watched it yesterday, it's so fucking ridiculous and hilarious...I was expecting some b-movie hilarity, but I was not prepared for the amount of it! lol. There's a couple of scenes where the horrible "acting" kinda took away from the hilarity, but overall it was really good (in a bad kinda way).

I liked the movie a lot too. Crazy idea.
I don't hate you. I'm just not necessarily excited about your existence.

i watched it a few days ago and it is the most incredibly cheesy film i've seen....it is epic and should be viewed as a comedy.
I would recommend watching it...didn't think i would enjoy it but i did

    Horrible film really.

Tries to take on something that might seem as an interesting subject somewhat yet turns it into a bad comedy with a hint of drama at the end.

    Why? Spoilers ahead.

Well let's see, it starts with dumb stereotypes on all sides, the "black" man being a joker, being different and whatnot, being captured by nazis on the moon. Then it goes serious, it shows us how the nazis view life out there and their wish to return to Earth and make everyone aryan... then it goes back into a joke as the black dude, a naive lady and some nazi troopers go to Earth and decide to conquer it by using dumb media, songs and whatever else. Anyway, I won't spoil everything, it keeps going from serious to bad comedy until the end when it goes all dramatic with you seeing both the nazi civilians sitting in ruins and nukes flying all over Earth... yea, mass extinction, now that's a funny subject, right?

The acting is horrendous. It's bad. Some actors, like ... forgat their names, the black guy, the lady secretary who ended comanding the starship etc are horrible, they are over the top even for a comedy, and the secretary lady is just bad at her act showing little emotion in her play.

The script though, as I said, is even more horrible. The creators probably thought throwing stuff to bring teenagers was good, and maybe it was, who knows. There's random sexy scenes and whatnot, there's explosions and war for no reason but also trying to turn the nazis into some sort of media superstars. I won't even talk about stereotypes that are so bad I felt bad, there's a limit on funny even, and they passed it, they go to 4chan bad. And at the end, the movie moves from the "comedy" to a dramatic end... like throwing cold water on you even if you did laugh.

The movie excels in one place only, and that is visuals. The nazi base on the moon, the Earth spaceships, the battle between the spaceships, that's nice I admit.

I think you may have missed the point of the film. It spoofs a quite a few critically acclaimed films, events and is a social commentary while being a "grindhouse" flick.

    spoilers ahead.

The part where the black (white?) guy pretends to be unable to control his arm from saluting as he's in the wheelchair ... obviously not as good as the original in Dr. Strangelove, but a great reference. The Downfall spoof was great. The ship being named after George W. Bush was amazing. The Götterdämmerung being the name of the ship was a pretty big clue as to what certain major events were modeled after. Not to mention the play on the ridiculous wording of Wunderwaffe, an actual name that was given to so-called super weapons by Nazi propaganda. Actually the only parody I didn't care for was Sarah Palin, and that's probably because it was a reality that she might have actually been in a position of real power and it brought back those bad memories.

What's actually entertaining, to me at least, is that out of all the various Nazi-Germany films I've seen it's the most accurate in its portrayal of what the Government did to its people with respect to propaganda and keeping knowledge from them. It also does a decent job of showing that in America (teaming up with a model to get votes, getting excited to go to war so you can get re-elected, etc). Lastly, the ending is actually quite serious when the countries of the world start bombing each other because they've all created advanced technology behind each others' backs. The visuals actually being decent makes it rather unsettling, really.

I certainly wouldn't rank it up there with the best in the parody/social commentary category, but it's really not a bad film at all when viewed in that light. If it was taken in as an action/comedy movie, then I could understand it being viewed as terrible.

Just watched this on netflix - so so terrible and so so funny. I loved it.

They did a pretty good spoof of the scene from Downfall that's on youtube over and over....all those 'Hitler finds out about....' ones
Profanity is the inevitable linguistic crutch of the inarticulate mother%$#@er.

Actually Badpaladin, look at the trailer, and the trailer alone. Now tell me, from that trailer, what movie would you think you'd be looking at? I'd say a SF action movie with some hints of funny moments here and there. Kind of like... Avengers. It was a SF movie, it was action and it had funny moments here and there.

Yet... is that what you get? No.
You're saying I should have taken it as a parody of sorts. Yet what do parodies do? They make fun of something that works bad by exaggerating certain elements, they're sort of like black comedies. Comedies since the end result should make you laugh at how bad stuff works, black because in the end this is something that happens in your life and affects you. I didn't feel like laughing at any point in there, for everything was so stereotypical it just felt way too forced. It's like when I hear my president say that if the other party comes in power communism will return in my country... you know, it's not funny, it's not enjoyable, it's not even a parody, I just think that the person who thought that is mad. And not in a good way.

Lastly, even if let's say it might be a parody of sorts... what do parodies do? They remain parodies the entire time. While this movie changes in the last few minutes to a dramatic end with you seeing everyone dying and nukes flying. Or are you going to tell me this part is a parody too? I doubt that a lot.
Overall, I understand your point, just respectfully disagree.

So many cultural references and their spoofs.
Cant be more funny or epic.
    Also, Ceppelins IN SPACE!

I don't think you understood a lot of the references the movie made. If someone doesn't, then they're in for a bad trip because it doesn't even come close to being an easy-to-digest parody of those things. The references come quick and expect the person to know the meanings of the words and actions on the spot.

What the trailer shows isn't relevant - the trailer to Valhalla Rising makes it look like 300 With Vikings, not a super slow-churning arthouse film about atmosphere and minimal dialogue.

I admit here, I don't understand many of the references the movie made. I understood the idea of keeping stuff from the people made by the gouvernment and the north korea jokes for example or every country making weapons when they're claiming they are bringing peace and crap, but I maybe missed many of the other references. Maybe it's because I'm not interested in the stuff it tackled, who knows, but there you are right.
