I'll be preordering in the near future, primarily so I can play in the early access a few days before launch. I don't care about beta; I'd rather play the completed game. I don't need to test the game (aka be sent on errands). I don't get the obsession with playing MMO betas. I've played a few of them, and all they really do is destroy my anticipation and excitement for the game; the impact of the impending launch of significantly dampened.
ArenaNet should have known that millions of people would pre order the second it went live.
Also, didnt they have like a million beta signups? Wouldnt shock me if we found out that 3 million people purchased GW2 by the time it releases. I dont know a single person that isnt buying it. . . . well my granny isnt, but shes like 90.
what're you talking about ONLY set by marketing hype?
what marketing? there's been NO marketing of Guild Wars 2 at all unlike the $$-fueled SW:TOR
you know what fuels GW2? the greatest marketing scheme of all time
...word of mouth
best thing about it? it's free and ArenaNET has nothing to do with the Feverish buzz and demand that is out there.. it's all us the gamers who are throwing money at them
ALL OF US ARE LIKE HERE! JUST TAKE IT! TAKE MY MONEY!!
.......please take my money!!
ArenaNet knows this too, and they're taking advantage of the free advertising from social media like facebook and twitter.

“There used to be a time where you could have a mediocre title but you spend millions in marketing and you could still move a lot of units,” said Chris Lye, global brand director for ArenaNet. “Those days are gone. With the rise of social media people listen to their friends’ more than gaming press. The good news is that it’s become a great equalizer. It’s no longer about who can throw the biggest marketing budget at a game. If you have a great game, people are going to tell their friends. That’s probably the most exciting thing for me. Social media is a huge factor in the marketing of online games. It’s not something we’ve fully figured out yet, but we’re continuing to experiment and we see it as an opportunity to use it in a compelling way moving forward.”
+1
thanks for the article, and it's something that indeed ArenaNET capitalizes on but my main point to the person I replied to is that this wasn't something that ArenaNET bought or whatever.. the "Buzz" grew beyond their control it's like a Wave
a wave they're clearly surfing and enjoying hell to be brutally honest
I've never, EVER been this anxious throwing money at somehting.. lol I'm just glad it finally took Apr 10
JUST TAKE IT! TAKE MY MONEY ALREADY!! = GuildWars 2 Slogan :P
I was going to hold out buying it until I get my next pay cheque but when I saw that message I purchased it.
It might be a marketing ploy but didn't want to take any chances
