Up until this video I had no intention of playing a mesmer. Now I have 3 classes to choose from at the beta weekend ;(

Then like, GW1, you get into a group with randoms who call you all sort of names if you don't play this or that way (when I tried to get back to GW1 after a long break I quit and unninstalled after 30 minutes just due to that).
I think GW2's community will be perfectly fine (compared to other online games, not saying it will be amazing because no game with a large community is), and the way DEs work is that you don't have to be in a group at all yet still get full credit (based off of your participation) and the same loot (everyone's loot is individual, also based off of participation)
The whole "getting called names because you don't play well" is going to happen in every MMO..
It happens all the time in WoW (not to me, personally), due to your DPS not being high enough, gear being wrong, spec being wrong.
Saying that GW2's community will suck due to you having a single bad experience (I'm guessing it was a single, since you said 'uninstalled after 30mins') in GW1 is beyond silly.
People are saying that when you turn your back to an enemy they get extra crit so i will have to backpedal to stay away from people. Which seems like a big buff to melee. backpedaling is like a 50% snare while melee just run forward and have self dispel to get rid of slows seems kind of dumb.
I'm confused, how is this different than WoW?
In WoW, if you turn your back to an enemy you can't hit them and you can't dodge or parry, so you have to strafe so that you back isn't to them.
In GW2, they get extra crit, so you have to strafe so your back isn't to them.
Why would back crit 'force' you to backpedal? >.>
Youll get flamed in gw2 as well lol maybe not for the first few months but you will people take video games super seriously.
In all the likelyhood, no. Those of us who saw how GW1 worked, it's basically "great art, shoddy animations". We had several threads on the topic to date.
You'll likely have to "deal with it". That said much bigger problem is lack of cast bars, as at this point to see something important being cast you need to see animation and small particles around the mob's arms, which is almost impossible when several players are beating on that mob, causing the "particle soup" from player's effects.
That one arenanet acknowledged as a serious problem and went on the record to say they're working on it. Solution has not been out yet, in spite of several months having passed, so it seems it's a tough one to tackle.
you can shoot the enemy from over your shoulder but your back is still facing them doing this i am moving at 100% movement speed. So if i am kiting a warrior. He can take out his rifle and get extra critical chance on me but i can't get extra critical him because he is facing forward. If i back pedal to stop the extra critical chance. I have a 50% snare on me that scales with his slows so i will move even slower the warrior also has condition removers for any snare but he can also just run forward at me all the time. At 100% movement speed why'll i am stuck at 50% which is dumb. I know i can dodge roll out of the way but look "I AM A RANGER NOT A NINJA" fighting people at "RANGE" is what i am supposed to do.

As I JUST SAID, there is this magical movement type called 'strafing'.
It's not just backpedaling VS turning your back, you can also strafe.
You're not supposed to turn your back to an enemy in WoW either, if you do you're doing it wrong.
Obviously, you have never heard of strafing, so I'm unsure why I'm bothering trying to explain it to you.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6U4zv...feature=relmfu 2.16 seconds into the video he back is still facing the feral but he is strafing that's what i am talking about.
http://64.25.35.206/wiki/Flanking_Critical_Chance
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Body_direction that's what i am talking about Btw that's a thief talent so the flanking thing might not be for every class so yeah : D.

uhum.. Totalbiscuit/totalhalibut played WITH DEVS, who then got whooped in the face by there own mechanics. yeh press-plays bad.. yes the majority may do that, but that is because they don't generlly understands the game( in a few parts), this does not mean YOU OR ME are better than the press-guys playing the game.
Looks soooo clunky :S I was hyped as hell for this game when I heard about it but every video makes it look worse and worse. Hotkey mmo with clunky animations, movement, boring spell effects and abilities tied to weapons?! Eurgh. All the backpeddle makes my eyes bleed too.

My point is that you're not supposed to turn your back to enemies in WoW either, how is this any different.Players can only dodge attacks if they are facing their opponent
Targets of melee attacks can have a chance to parry each incoming frontal attack.
Enemies do more damage to your back, same as WoW.
I personally don't think it looks clunky, but if it does to you then don't play.

Well parries and dodges are preventable by stacking expertise and those are melee ability theirs flanking on ranged moves as well. which means when kiting a warrior like brang did on the video. The warrior can pull out a bow or gun and get extra crit it just sounds kind of silly. You can't strafe running forward you show your side or back every once and a while which means ranged classes still get bonuses.
If the warrior used a gun , why bother kitting him , showing ur back ?
Edit : My guess weapon switch for warriors full traited from 10 sec will be 8 or 7 sec
Uhh, no, the whole reason I linked dodge and parry was to point out the fact that you have a 0% chance to dodge or parry if your back is to an enemy.
Why does that mean you have to backpedal?theirs flanking on ranged moves as well. which means when kiting a warrior like brang did on the video.
No, the warrior can't, because it's a thief skill. The thief/ranger can, but if he's mostly using ranged attacks.. then why would it matter if you're backpedaling? 'Oh no, if I don't kite I'll be in range of his.. oh wait, he's using a gun anyways.'The warrior can pull out a bow or gun and get extra crit it just sounds kind of silly.
lolwtfdoesthatevenmeanYou can't strafe running forward
The thief and ranger do extra damage to your back if you turn your back to them. So don't turn your back to them. How is this any different than WoW, seriously.you show your side or back every once and a while which means ranged classes still get bonuses.
The only difference is they can be ranged and still do +damage to your back, but that's not as bad because you generally aren't trying to kite a range. Seriously. Why are you trying to kite someone who is hitting you from range.
I'm probably done replying to you now, assuming your next reply is as silly as your previous ones.
WOW, i really wants this game now! It's looks so awesome, and i absolutely love the idea about 5 man content!
