Favorite VG's come from age 13-15.

So I pondered this little postulate.

After looking at FF threads I came to the conclusion that whatever FF came out when you were age 13-15 is your favorite FF game, regardless of what it was.

    Then I thought, broaden that.

Now I ask, what is your favorite video game of all time?

How old were you when it came out?

Baldur's Gate, but I don't remember how old I was.
Probably 16+, becasue I got into gaming around that age, but did not try BG until years later.

I would have to say Legend of Dragoon. It came out when I was around that age, but I didn't play it until I was 18. I played FFVI when it was released as well as every final fantasy after that, I like them all, especially 10, but none were ever as epic as LoD was for me.

God of War 3. I was 18 when it came out.

All time memory would be Crystalis (9 age) which really first turned me onto the RPG console games; more so than the original Zelda. Also up there is Secret of Mana.

alas...Its mentions of age like that which make me feel old. Similar to watching the space shuttle fly by today on its farewell tour of the area and someone mentioning they weren't born when the Challenger blew up.

Majora's Mask, came out when I was 9. Still play it all the time.

Games are like movies to me. Some you can't compare to others.

How can I compare the story/presentation of Final Fantasy VI or VII to the free-form sandbox style freedom of gameplay of GTAIII?

Galerians. It came out when I was like 14, but I loved it... And I can't find it anywhere, lol

Tough call. Right now I am feeling Everquest was my favorite game of all time. Final Fantasy Tactics rivals my love of EQ1. They both were out when I was 18-19 years old.

1998-1999 was probably the high point of video gaming. Not sure the industry can top those 2 years.

The thing about that hypothesis, as people go through puberty their tastes change. Be it actually paying attention to the story of the game or finding a better story than their previous favorite, or finding a new game play style they enjoyed more. Also as they get older they get more mature, going from kiddy funny games to more serious games, or even games that make them think more than previous games.

I'm not saying your hypothesis doesn't have a basis, considering most games people enjoy did come out in the span of their teenage years. Also nostalgia sets in from peoples teenage years, which is most peoples best years.

Pokemon Gold. I was around 7 when it came out.

Sure, WoW has left me an addicted shell of my former self, but Pokemon Gold is what made me addicted to video games to begin with.
Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and for thy possession, the ends of the earth. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron. Thou shalt dash them in pieces, like a potter's vessel. Be wise now therefore ye kings. Be admonished ye judges of the earth. Serve the lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the son lest he be angry, and ye perish in the way, though his wrath be kindled but a little.

Chrono Trigger came out a week or two after I turned 16. Would have been that. But since I can't choose it, then it's a close race between Final Fantasy VI and Secret of Mana with the edge to Mana, so I guess that game. Favourite game of all time is Chrono Trigger.

I completely agree with your observation though. The Final Fantasy series has that juvenile quality that the D&D novels have in it's story. It really hits home to that age group. The characters are often around the age of 16 to 17 and the fact that a 16 or 17 year old can save the world and be mature is pretty believable to a young teenager. I was 18 when FFVII came out. A lot happens in life between 15 and 18. One of those things includes better education and understanding of story and literature. It's hard to look at the series at 18 years old and take it seriously story-wise. Or even any video game story for that matter.

I never really liked FF, hated the style of combat. :/

Fave game, if not WoW then probably GTA. 19 next Wednesday.

The problem is I couldn't possibly could pick one game :/

    Dark Cloud 2: 10
    FF12: 14-15 (May have a point there)
    FF7: 5
    FF6: N/A
    FF4DS: 17
    Simcity 2K: 1, lol
    Arkham City: 18
    Pokemon Red: 6
ALttP: 0 and 10, depending on which release. Mostly played SNES though.
    Skyward Sword: 18

I'd say the games I'm most fond of come from early years and the ones I enjoy the most critically come from all over, as a general rule, but it really varies a lot.

    Mass effect-2007 22 years old
But there are probably more games, that I enjoyed/can remember from the time i was around 13-15.

In the end I went with mass effect cause it got me into the series, has great story, and really the only non pc game i have replayed several times.

I don't know if I'd say at this point it's my favourite game ever, but FF8 was and still is a game I really love, and it got me into the FF series as well as video games for the most part. I was 14 or 15 at that time.
