    Age Restricted Servers

Do you think it would be viable for GW2 to have age restricted servers? Say for instance 25yr and up.

Now I know people could easily just lie about their age when they sign up for a GW2 account but I'm not talking about the logistics of such a undertaking but more of the viability of it.

Would that be something you would be interested in or do you like things the way they are?

Also not sure if this is the right forum for this. If not, I apologize in advance.

Younger means more immature. Generally. Of course it'd be great. It also couldn't happen. No point in dwelling on what's impossible.

Yeah, we should totally make sure that kids under 18 can't look at porn too.

Personally I don't think there would be a difference between a regular server and an age restricted one, even older people can be immature trolls. Although you'd be less likely to find someone as immature as a younger player. As you said though people will lie :/

I don't think it wouldn't change much with the way servers work in this game, you can visit any server you want.

you assume all people under 25 are not smart enough to play with the big boys..

well what if those intelligent youngsters want to play with people who are also mature but they cannot becuase they are older and on a different server?

we will lie about and move over to that server

then the immature play with the immature and get nothing done or there is simply not enough people left on that server and those immatures reroll, repeating the cycle

    im 15 btw

I'm 18, I'm mature, unless I get pushed over the edge by trolls and bads who claim supremacy.

Making it say 25+ and older, will just make it a larger target for younger kids, who want to be 'cool' and be in the server they shouldn't be in.
It will happen, and you know it, there is really no way to stop it, they will always lie.

But that's what the /ignore feature is for! YAY!

The point of GW2 is to get people to play together, not to split them apart. Kind of the point of having a single faction and not having PVP/RP servers.

Doesn't this happen already in mmos but with guilds? IE mature guild has all people over X age and mature younger folk who lied, where allthe idiots like me bable around and make their stupid jokes in their own guilds xD?

No. Bad idea, won't change what you're trying to change. Immature people come in all ages, and you have to accept that. I'd like a server that doesn't have stupid people, but that doesn't mean I think a server that requires high IQ score before you can join it would be any fun.

This is of course assuming that you could actually enforce something like an age restricted server.

Good point, Guess it would suck for more mature younger players

I like.. 130+ servers would be awesome

I think that a 25+ server would have a much higher maturity level personally (as an average, there are still very immature 25+ year olds) but it would be a slap in the face to the people under 25 that are more than mature enough and in turn force them to play on a server that would have an even lower maturity level then normal. This is assuming you could actually enforce age restriction, which of course wouldn't work.

Anet won't implement anything like this as it would split up the player base. Not doing so is part of their core philosophy.

I'd rather have the opportunity to meet nice people under 25 and risk meeting some unsavory oiks than have that entire section of the player base removed.

It'd insult the younger portion of the audience, cos there's something intrinsic in most of us - regardless of age - what wants to feel that we're ok playing with the big boys/girls. Doesn't matter if you're 40 & want access to the executives' area or 17 and want access to the local bar.

It'll filter out less jackasses than many people think. I know a few of the regular trade trolls on my wow server - most of them are over 35, and all of the ones I know are over 25.

From an guild admin point of view, anyone who's half competent can work out who's underage (or close to) and has lied on their app. I've certainly come across mature 15 year olds, but if you honestly think you can fool people you're in regular contact with for months you're kidding yourself. The reason for our underage ban is that teenage angst & hormonal swings affect everyone at that point and that's just not behaviour+attitudes you can hide. Infact I'd say the 13-15yo's are normally much less hassle than the 18-20yo's. Sometimes we've politely ignored that members pretty clearly lied & are underage (tho being lied to obviously doesn't make us sympathetic), more often they've gone & got hormonal over something and been booted or have been unreliable and left/been-booted.

I don't think fencing all the teen angst & college shenanigans onto a limited number of servers is going to improve matters at all. There are plenty of older trolls & the "problem" it's designed to minimise can be handled by players socially. All it'll cause is more lying about age on the account signup.

Congratulations on winning the prize for worst suggestion of the year. ^^

Everyone is equally likely to be bad or immature, the only people that matter are those which you play with. If for some reason you discriminate based on age, rather than the actual person, then I worry for you.

There's no point in 25+ servers. It also is not good to seperate 12year olds to play on their own server. If you cannot handle a younger person, you are being immature yourself I suppose.

  17. #17
There's no way to realistically enforce that (and there are other potential legal issues with it).

Age of Conan tried to do the "mature players only" thing with their game. Yeah, the servers were just as bad as the ones you find anywhere else. In fact, I remember them being a bit worse : /

Never mentioned it was to keep young people or trolls out in my original post. Though it was my fault I wasn't more specific. I just think older people are able to relate easier with players of there own age.

The 25yr or older was just an example I threw out there not the definitive age cap. Yes young players can be annoying but then again we probably all were when we were that age. Older players can also be annoying though with the anonymity of the internet its hard to honestly gauge another players age.

Though I guess all of this can be bypassed by just making a guild of adult or mature players. Therein lies the problem. Of all the guilds I've ever been a part of everyone tries to be a comedian. I'm down with the jokes but most of the time I just lol to not be rude when what I really want to say is "you're not funny, please stop trying".

Ah I see what you were getting at now. I was in the wagon that assumed when you said you want to seperate ages groups is because you though kiddies were just all trolls and the older crowds are the beacons of maturity.

I could understand them making servers that have recommended ages but I doubt it would be like a hard restriction. But as you said in the last paragraph your best bet would be to just make you own guild.

Age doesn't always equal maturity, i've played with some pretty horrendous older players.
