    [Music] Where to Download/Buy Music?

I'm trying to find where to download/buy music. I got a new computer and lost all my songs. I don't want to use iTunes because the DRM makes you unnable to acess the mp3 folder and only lets you play it through itunes.

Anyone able to help me out?

    Occasional WoW Classic Andy since.
Nothing lasts forever, as they say.
But at least I can casually play Classic and remember when MMORPGs were good.

    Glurp,

There is no DRM on iTunes Music anymore.
All iTunes purchases are a Constant 256 bit rate in AAC.

AAC is a newer and superior format to old MP3.
AAC is also an open standard.
All Apple, Microsoft (Windows), WinAmp, etc., hardware & software will play AAC files.

    iTunes.

Btw, thanks for the insight Titheon, I've had no idea of the advantages of AAC.

The benefit of MP3 is that it is still far more compatible. The quality of the sound is better on AAC, but most people won't even be able to tell the difference when going back and forth between the two.

I just know a lot of people still without main stream products, or older products that still do not support AAC.

You make it sound like 256kbps AAC is actually something special. It's still lossy and therefore imperfect. I suggest the OP orders CDs from amazon instead of downloading mp3s. All he has to do is then rip them in a flac/alac format. Sure that might cost a bit more but the trade off is better music quality, in my opinion totally worth it + you still have the CD if you lose your music collection again.

Amazon is what worked for me.

Amazon, iTunes, and maybe extracting the MP3 from youtube videos. Or you can download torrents via Vuze, Frostwire, or BitTorrent.
Sweeter than yo mama's apple pie.

iTunes is one of the best Encoders available (and it's free).
It will encode in AAC, mp3, etc., including Apple Lossless Format. Which, again, is open source.

Lastly, if you are concerned about backing-up your music and you don't use any type of back-up software...
iTunes Match is an option for you.

All your music will be in iCloud and available at any time.
Also, even if you have older music encoded at a lower bit rate, it will convert it to 256 bit AAC.
It doesn't matter where your older music came from, if it is in your library, it will be converted (if available).

This was very useful to me.
When hard drives were smaller several years ago, I encoded most of my music I had at the time to 192 bit mp3 with encoding software that is obviously not as good as what is available today.
Now, most of music is 256 bit AAC from Studio Masters.

I think at this point the OP has long since found a solution.
