Cool Tower On or Off the floor Discuss.

Now im looking for some opinion's on if its ok/ better to have the tower on the floor or on a desk. If you guys could post some answers to this with you choice would be awsome. I know if i put my full size phantom on the ground i would have alot more room but i have heard mixed things about putting a tower on the ground. But yet i see in alot of pic's that people still do. DISCUSS

well, it simply depends on how clean your floor is imo =]

Due to static discharge and buildup, I would tell you to NEVER put a tower on the floor. If the floor is carpeted, even worse, as the carpet collects dust, mold, hair, ad infinitum, ad nauseum and this "stuff" can get into your fans a lot easier the closer it is to the ground.

It's simply a matter of how much shit there's on your floors. Intake fans will pull in air around the computer, and the dirtier the air is, dirtier your computers' insides will be.

That's all there is to it in table vs floor discussion. There's no performance difference whatsoever.

    Trolling should be.

Why would someone want a noise-maker right next to them at ear height? Even if you have tons of pizza cartons, empty sodas and stale food on plates you should have taken to the kitchen weeks ago, I still say the floor is the better place. Unless your floor is fully carpeted, at which point I'd get one of those thingies that elevates the computer somewhat.

Putting it on the floor saves precious desk space.

There's a reason for silent cases, you know. i5-2500K with high end air cooler and GTX560ti makes very little sound in Fractal Design Define R3.

If I can choose between obstructing the view of my second display and not, I choose not. If I can choose between having my laptop next to me and the stationary computer case on the floor, instead of the other way around, I'd choose that too. Granted, many people probably don't have more than one monitor, or a laptop (or three, in my case). But there's a butt load of people that don't have silent cases and put them up on the desktop anyway. I understand some people have their cases on the desktop, but given alternatives, one could put a mini-refrigerator there instead. Or in lieu of one, a second chair in case you get company.

I can't argue with estethics, it's highly individual. Some people want a computer case slam face since they might simply like it (neon lights perhaps). Or have those short cords on their headsets (mine is 90cm I believe, it's plugged into my keyboard though). However, I have a hard time believing the scenario you described. I might be wrong, but I have a hard time imagining people go "since it makes so little noise I'll just keep it as close as possible".

Depends on how much room there is on the desk. I used to have it on the desk, but these days it's under/next to the desk. My desk is about 1.4m wide and I really need that space, having a HAF X also doesn't really help saving space.

I get lower FPS because my videocard has a hard time pushing all those bits up :P

Even a quiet case like the Define R3 will be quieter on the floor. Carpeted floors also help decouple the case and reduce any noise caused by vibration at the base/feet.

I've actually got mine hanging on brackets on the wall. Not only does it look cool, but it saves both floor and desk space and makes external cable management a breeze.

Have you been lurking around my house again?

If I put my computer on the floor, the cats would be all over it, and you know what cat hair is like.

You know all I ever hear about on these forums is "OMG SO LOUD I CANT STAND IT". Honestly some of the noises I hear people complaining about, I think they just want to complain about something and have nothing to complain about. I have a lian Li case with 6 fans in it. I didn't but "Silent" fans they are Lian Li aluminum fans, I can hear them barely but once I put on headphones or some music I'm lucky if I can hear my phone never mind my PC.

On topic I have my tower on my desk, its easier to plug/unplug stuff etc. Stays cleaner also.

Elevated *somehow* is how I'll answer this. Not everyone has a desk that's big enough, or strong enough in some cases, if they have a nice big ol' full tower made of steel and/or aluminum, plastic case manufacturers GTFO. I personally have my tower on a really nice and VERY sturdy, and I mean this coffee table, it is heavier than my computer, and I have a steel full tower. (HAF X, 32lbs+innards.) The coffee table was made by my great granddad, and it's very nice, kind of feel bad using it for this, but oh well. =S

I have mine on a board on my carpeted floor. Don't want any vibrations causing any kind of charge to accumulate. I have the HAF 922 so it's fucking huge so don't really want it on my desk
My previous computer sat on the carpet and man it would give me some mean ass shocks when I would turn it on/off on occasion. Eventually the mobo or PS gave out on it and I think that was part of the cause.

Floor! Temperature is lower there. Lulz.

It's mostly a comfort/personal preference issue. I have a Rosewill Thor V2... putting that up on the desk is about as retarded as it could get.
Hell, even Mid ATX towers are way too large to stay on the desk, as far as aesthetics go, IMO. Unless you have a huge desk.

My desk has a raised platform for my case, it works well enough.
